Guess I won't be getting any deer this year frown.

Big Stick says unless I have a 6mm CM with a bullet with a BC of .620, that I won't be able to handle the recoil, I'll go deaf from the noise, the terminal effects will be poor, and the inferior flight characteristics will totally eliminate any fun to be had.

Wish I had known all this 65 years ago. It would have been spared a lifetime of grief and misery in the woods!
Savage 99 in .300 savage

I've got a handful of bolt guns that need to get blooded. My brother and family have decided to go on a lever gun kick this year so some are going to be left out.

Listening to Stick is a mistake. Generally.
My first choice rifle this year will likely be a Custom rifle by PO Ackley in 7X57 built on a Husqvarna action. It has an old Bear Cub 4X scope on that I will change out to a modern scope. I plan on hunting with it this year then putting the original scope back on it, before I stick it away in the safe so my sons can find it after I'm gone...
My deer rifle for the year wil be the same as last year, a Winchester SX4 12 gauge shotgun. (Gotta love eastern Va and all the shotgun-only counties). If I go a little further west, I'll probably use a Browning BLR .308 or a Winchester FW .308.
1981 Winchester 70 xtr in .308 for deer/ hogs ( redneck perfected it)

Glock 22 for early morning hog run ins pre sunrise( better than coffee to wake you up).
Tikka T3x Lite Stainless 6.5 Creedmoor, 22.5" barrel (this forum largely talked me into one heh!) or a Ruger Hawkeye All Weather in 6.5 Creedmoor with a 26" barrel. If I keep that one I think I'll cut it to 22.5".

Boxerdog, that sounds like a very nice Winchester! *Almost* went with an XTR in 308 not long ago. Prolly should have but I'm on a stainless kick right now.
Who knows! Deer season is two months away, but a 7mm-08, a 243, and a 44 magnum will be involved.
Tikka t3 7mm mag
Bergara hmr 7mm mag
Remington 700 300 win mag
Tikka t3 308

Think these will make the trip to Montana this fall
Still the same as previous years! memtb
Marlin 336 SC in 35 Remington made in 1955
Remington SS Adl 308 chopped to 20" with 1.5-5 leupy for the ugly days.
SS Cva single shot chambered in 35 Remington for muzzeloader.
MT Mule Deer:

Whitetails:
Tikka T3x 270wsm 140 Accubonds
Tikka T3x 30-06 165 Accubonds
7600 35Whelen 225 Gamekings
Knight Mountaineer 50 cal with 250 Barnes
Got a dozen new rifles to try

45 auto for piggies
Debating between a 3040 Krag (bubba'd)
Or my Marlin 336 30-30.
The last few deer I killed were ~ 85 yards and in.
Probably be carrying the Blackhawk 45 Colt also.
I've got a new Ruger African in 6.5x55 that will get used some and a Husqvarna 7x57 that will be carried when I'm woods walking. I'll always have the Ruger Blackhawk 44 mag with me for when a deer messes up and gets too close

I read schtiks stuff, but for amusement purposes only....and in moderation.

I have a ruger Hawkeye LH standard 30-06 that's never been hunting in like 8 years......that really needs to be addressed.
7.5” super Blackhawk that my dads best man gave me before he passed away…

Rem 760 30-06 that I’m planning on reduced loads with 170gr hornadys at warm 30-30 velocities.

Marlin 30-30

Marlin 35Rem

Old 760 35 Rem with open sights. My eyes aren’t what they used to be but I just can’t bring myself to have it drilled and tapped.

If I get around to working up a load for it a like new Remington 700 varmint special in 6mm

But that’s likely to change before season opens. So many rifles so little time!

Oh, I almost forgot about 6TCU and 35Rem contender barrels I haven’t used yet….
Just remembered the 700 classic 8mauser I found last year….

I need more spare time….
Big 7 and little 7
7mm REM Mag Browning X-Bolt Hells Canyon Speed with 140 grain REM Accutip hand loads.
Mule Deer Buck
7mm-08 Tikka T3X with 139 grain Hornady BTSP-IL hand loads
Mule Deer Doe
I’ve killed a coyote with the little 7, the big 7 has yet to draw blood.
We usually run into a few coyotes that we have ignored in the past, but I’m not planning to do that this year. Should be a fun hunt.
Idaho mule deer hunt:

Winchester Mod. 70 Winlite Featherweight .270 w/ 145 eldx and
Mauser M12 .308 w/ 155 Scenars

Utah Muzzy Elk:

CVA Accura w/ 350g Federal BORELOKS

*Just in case I need to go long I will be packing a wrist rocket loaded with .284 180 eldm's!
For the dense woodlands and swamps along the Delaware Bay where I hunt, it will be the usual, Winchester 1300 pump in 12 gauge, fully rifled with Williams firesights.

Planning to buy a CVA Accura before the January muzzleloader season.
Here in brown bear country it will be mostly the .416 Taylor and 9.3x62, both stainless Model 70s.

I'm close on two of those, mainly just to try the rounds/rifle.

350 Legend AR - not sure the load yet but plan to see how the 170 Hornady factory shoots and go from there

Contender carbine in .357 Max - 21" barrel with 180 Aframe and H110. Youngest wants to try this one and I'll play with it a bit as well

Old standards - Fieldcraft 22" in 6.5 CM and Seekins Havak in 6.5 CM

For muzzle loader/prim weapons in each state a NULA muzzleloader

I'm lucky to hunt multiple states with a rifle season from mid-Oct to early Feb so I'll use a lot of rifles over the ~4 months.
T/C Encore with Arrowhead .45 barrel

Beanland built 6.5 Saum

I like to keep it simple
This year thinking these

Browning Ti in 308 hasn’t been out in a while

Colt Light Rifle 30006

Not sure what else

Muzzle season will be Savage ML 10 don’t like to clean too much

Smith 13 or my Colt Delta come along for Muzzle backup

I will be waiting for one to get close enough to my 480 Ruger or 500 JRH as well.. Love them little handcannons!
Savage 99 30/30
Savage 99 300 Sav
Kimber Montana .308 Win
Rem 700 Classic 300 Sav
I seem to have a little 30 caliber bias.
My intention is to use my .308 mnt rifle, but will probably tag out with my bow before I get a chance.

Cool 30’s though. Many points for style.
I'll start off with the CVA .35Whelen for Primitive weapons, as always. Then I'll likely move to a few newer acquisitions that need some trigger time, namely a SS Vanguard .257wby with Partitions and some additional time with the Sig Cross 6.5CM, especially now that it is suppressed. It's rapidly becoming on of my favorites. I love the weight/size, the adjustability, the way it shoots, the SS barrel, and just how user-friendly it is.

One more that will hopefully slide in before November is the CVA Scout 7mm-08 I have at Ecco Machine that's getting chopped and threaded. Should make a neat little rifle for the woods with a can.
SC has already started and I’ve gone out once with a Smith 657 210 grain XTP’s. Another 657 is next in the lineup. After that in no particular order:

Remington 700 .233
Ruger 1B .308
Sako 85 6.5x5
Marlin GG .45-7
Smith 629
Smith 629

I think the .308 will definitely go at some point, the other, maybe, maybe not. If I get to go to NY to the big woods, certainly the Guide Gun. If I get to go to Missouri I will probably take the 6.5x55. Maybe. In truth, I don’t usually know until I’m going out the door what I’m going to use on a given day.

I may take a lesser antlered deer if he's closer - just to see. Haven't connected with the howitzer yet.
Got lots of choices but it'll wind up being a
722 Remington 300 Savage
or
Winchester 70 6.5x55
Ruger #1 6.5x55 for sure. Martini Cadet with 26" .357 Maximum barrel as understudy, 200 grain FN cast bullets, 158 grain cast if they don't work out.

LIKE. That was my carry here in South Georgia last year for deer and hogs. This year going to give my 450 Bushmaster (Wyndham) a go using 220gr. Xtreme Hunter Solid Monolithic
Any of you 300Savage shooters tried the 150gr Hornady SST specially made for the 300? Shoots great in my 99, think I'll give it a whirl on bambi this year.
If I can find them I'll try them.Been a corelock guy all my years 150 gr.
I intend on rut hunting with a Ruger MKII boat paddle I had JES bore to 358. Handy pumpkin chunker at 17”.

After that, a Mesa FFT in 6.5 that shoots too good to ignore.
Savage 111 25-06 in B&C stock

This is my first Savage and my first 25-06, looking forward to putting it to use.
Taking the daughter to Wyoming for her first deer hunt. We'll have a rem 600 based 25-284 and a ruger 77 in 7X57 with us. Really looking forward to it!
First will be my 25-284 which has become a killing machine with the 115 Ballistic tips. Twenty deer and hogs the last year and a half have rolled over to it.
Second will be my 375 H&H just because.
Third maybe TC Contender 30-30.

GreggH
The Tikka .308 will go elk hunting.

For deer, the .41 Magnum Ruger Blackhawk will get the call inside 50 yards. The Marlin 336 .30-30 for anything over 50 yards out to about 200.

Expat
Win 70 extreme weather .264 win mag with 140 grain NBTs
S&W 629 .44 mag with scope, 300 grain hornady XTPs
Win 70 featherweight .30-06 with 165 grain NABs
Planning on using this one for deer and antelope. I also have Winchester 1876 in 50 express that I will want to kill something with also…

First up will be my new to me this year husqvarna .30-06. Want to shoot a whitetail with it before taking it elk hunting later in november
If I manage to get an elk I probably won't shoot any more deer, but any others I do shoot will likely be with the Roessler titan 6 in .243. Maybe with a Marlin XS7 in .308
I'll be using my Dad's 760 '06 and I'll shoot the first legal deer that comes by. It will then get oiled down and live in the safe until my boys are old enough to use it. Lost Dad June 4th of this year, hopefully I can see through the tears to shoot.
NULA 308W with Leo 6x36 lrd is on the mound. The Defiance 30-06 with NF SHV 3-10x42 is in the bullpen. Still need to work up lead free loads for the 6.5x55, 9.3x62, and .223 for this fresh hell before they get in the lineup. Big bores are benched for the season.

i like your plan.
1) LH Rem 700 KS in 270, Leupold 2.5x8
2) LH P.O. Ackley Mauser in 7x57, Lyman 48

Have not blooded the Mauser since Mr. Kobe fitted the barrel. 160gr NPT over an average charge of I4350. Have a 130gr NBT / H4895 load worked up for the 270 to mimic 6.5CM speed and recoil. If the light load bounces off the deer, I have a full house 130gr NPT / H4831 load worked up to nearly same POI.
Arrowhead Obsidian muzzle loader.
That .357 Max is highly effective in my experience.

Killed 2 with it previously as a magnum
1954 Model 70 in 300 Hand H
Model 70 FWT XTR in 6.5x55
Model 70 FWT XTR in 7x57

Then any # of various other stuff.
The usual…..my Tikka 7 mag and my Glock 21.
Ruger Hawkeye in 338 Federal with a SWFA 3-9 & a Ruger Hawkeye in 6.8 spc2 with a Trijicon 3-9 Suppressed.
1st will be my m70 fwt in 280 with 140 partitons
a 700 BDL in 7 Rem Mag throwing 150 NBTs will pull back up duty.
maybe dad's old 700 in 308.
my Lyman Deerstalker flintlock
my CVA accura will do early Bear duty
my 28 Nosler for the bean field days
After a long break in pistol hunting, I now have a red dot about to be mounted on my Blackhawk Flat Top .44 Special.
That was to be the way for Yotes and WT this year until Ruger introduced the SFAR. Now there's one of them sitting in the safe waiting for blood too.
Our DNR has gone silly with rules so I'll have to check how many WT one can put in the freezer with a firearm this year.
Montana in 7-08 139 Interlock
Ruger 77RL in 260 Rem 120 TTSX
Savage 99F 300 150 Interlock
Savage 99F 250 100 Interlock
Honestly have not thought that far ahead. Elk are the brain right now.

I will be carrying my 338-06 with 210gr TTSX's for the month of October. I have a cow elk tag, but more importantly helping a friend with his limited entry bull tag that took 29 years to draw.

But now that I have thought of it.....Model 70 Classic in 270 Win and/or Sig Sauer 10mm.
Most of my deer hunting is in the woods and shots rarely exceed 100 yards. The last few bucks I have shot have been taken with a Ruger 77/44 and while it did the job it didn't produce much of a blood trail with either one so when an opportunity came up for a deal on a Ruger American Ranch in 350 legend I decided to give it a try. For the few times I might be on a field edge I'll be using my model seven FS in 308.

That 300 is a cool old rifle.
My faux Rigby stalker in 275Rigby will be #1.

After that, in no order will be a Remington 141 in 35Remington, CZ527 7.62x39 or a faux MR in 257Roberts.

I was lazy this summer and didn't get all the others going with proper loads.
For whatever reason I haven't hunted my Rem 700 Classic in 300 Savage enough. I intend to remedy that even if it's just popping a few pigs. I've got it ready to go with 150 grain Interlocks on top of 44 grains of RL15.
I am creature of habit so Savage 99-A 250-3000 for Whitetails and Ruger 77 7x57 for Mulies. The Ruger does have a new look this year. The original wood stock got broke last fall and now it is in a RamLine synthetic stock.
for whitetails and hogs i'll use a savage lightweight hunter in 308win. for elk i'll use a SS rem 700 bdl in 270win bedded in an HS Precision stock . going to shoot 130gr TTSX at elk.

This bout sums it up for me as well. They will be in 30-06, .308, or 7mm 08. Might give the AR .350 Legend an opportunity as well?
