Looks like a nice old rifle.
That's a good one. I would turn that front base around to give a bit more spacing. This gun will treat you well.
No it still has the sight boss, what you are seeing is the shadow on the wall alongside the barrel.

Got it changed, thanks for the help
TxDave: Good for you.
That is the Rifle my older brother and I shared back 56 years ago.
I hope you enjoy that nifty old Rifle as much as we enjoyed ours. I currently own a (different) very accurate Remington 722 in 222 Remington that wears a Lyman straight 10 power scope.
I, like 219 Wasp, was wondering WHY that front scope base is NOT facing the other direction - it would serve you better and would be worth the time to be turn't around.
Enjoy.

Lol, yeah I'm going to turn that base around. I thought the same thing when I bought it.

You're welcome, and I bet it shoots.
Got the base turned around
The older I get the more I appreciate older rifles like that. Nice find! I hope you and her have a nice relationship for a long time.

A successful marriage.
Rem .222, (miniature 30-06) will generally shoot anything well.
Good luck with it !
