Hello everybody. I'm new to the site. I am a freind of Buzz and he turned me onto the place.
I'm in the porocess of building a 98 Mauser in 8x57 and at the point where I am gonna need a gunsmith to help be out.
Was just wondering if anybody coudl point me in a good direction. I have contacted Karl Kampfeld, but he currently is not taking on any work, and was hesitant to recomend anybody.
Thanks in advance for yall's replies
He is in Wyoming but you can try Don Burgess. PM if you are interested & I will send his phone #.
I would highly recommend "redneck" from this site
thanks for everyone's input so far.

Where in Pa. are you? Mark Bansner is in Adamstown, and Bobby Hart is in Nescopeck, across the river from Berwick.

I'm in Pittsburgh, but I am not against shipping this anywhere in the lower 48 for the right smith
Here's another vote for Redneck from the Campfire. I just got my pre-64 Model 70 back from him with a trigger job. Vast improvement!
Can you send a rifle to a gunsmith without using a FFL dealer? Can he send it back to you directly?

Yes and yes. Use priority USPS mail
Try Jered Joplin at Patriot Arms or Chris Mathews of LongShot Rifles - 2 of the best!!!
Hey quakerboy, I just had an old sxs shotgun re-done by a very good gunsmith. in fact he is in Pa. I can honestly tell you that he brought this gun back from the brink,I am so pleased and impressed with his work, that I would highly recommend him. His name is Dewey Vicknair
You can look him up under Vicknair Restorations. he has recently moved to Lititz Pa.
I might add that his price was very reasonable for the amount of work he did. He also has an ad in the back of The Double Gun magazine.....Good Luck
