I have been interested in CZ rifles for quite awhile, they seem like rugged and dependable rifles. What I want to know is how their set trigger exactly works and how users like it?
Don't own a 550, but I do own a 527 w/single set trigger. Push it forward and it is set very light. Leave it alone, and it is normal. Love this Trigger.
I have a 550 Varmint in 22-250 with the single-set trigger. One of the most accurate rifles I have ever laid my hands on. The trigger is VERY confidence-inspiring. It's actually for sale right now. If interested, PM me.
CZs are quite possibly the highest quality rifles manufactured today. I've owned several, and all shot extremely well. The set trigger is excellant, but has a couple drawbacks compaired to some of the custom triggers. They are a little complicated to set up, but if you follow the directions, it's perfectly doable. The only real complaint I have is that the regular & set pull weights are not independantly adjustable. Lightening one also lightens the other, etc. Keep in mind though, a custom set trigger is a $200+ add on for most rifles. All in all, I would strongly recommend them for hunting use.
Heres the deal, the next deer/elk rifle will be either a CZ or a higher end rifle like a Cooper, I just havent decided which route to take, the middle of the road or creme de la creme.

It seems for what you get for the money the CZ is a great deal and value.
Don't mistake a CZ as less than even a Cooper. I've never owned a Cooper but would tell you a CZ, despite the price, is a decent piece of steel and very durable. The comb and mounts are easy to get over.

The set trigger helps eliminate flinching in the 416; you just don't have time to do it!
I have a 550FS 9.3X62 and a 527 Lux .223. I love the 550 and like the 527. The triggers are good on both. I have disabled the set fuction on the 550 since it is a big game rifle; I use the set trigger on the 527 for bench shooting only.
I have a 550 American in 9.3 X 62. The set trigger is great. Even on a DG rifle, you do not have to "set" the trigger, the stock full weight/pull is just fine. I have no intensions of replacing the stock set trigger.
I've got a CZ 550 American in .270 Win., and love it. The set trigger on the 550 works like on the 527: you push it forward to set it. The unset pull is easy to adjust and can be adjusted for weight of pull, take-up, and overtravel. The "set" position can be adjusted for weight of pull only, and it it adjustable without removing the action from the stock.

Here is a link to the range report I wrote after I took it to the range for the first time: https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbth...&topic=0&Search=true#Post1843857

After adjustment, the trigger is so nice, even in the un-set position, that I don't use the set trigger in the field, unless I'm taking a long shot and have plenty of time. At 100yds, off the bench, I don't see any accuracy difference between shooting set or un-set. But it is nice to have the set trigger for long shots from field positions.
I owned a 550 Safari in 375. It was the most accurate 375 I have played with. It was however heavy. The set trigger is nice easily adjustable.
