I have a sako finnbear with the built in tapered scope base. I am looking for rings to mount a scope which is 'dove tail' style. Any suggestions? The only ones I can find are from Leupold, but was told that they would not hold well on a Sako. Any advice is appreciated.

I added a set of Talley bases/rings to my daughters 270 AV.

The Talley bases come with two set screws in each base. If you really torque them down, they will leave marks on the top of each bridge.

I used the short end of the provided tool for minimal torque.
The best rings are the Sako, the rest are flimsy. You beat the front one on with a block of wood. expensive
where do i get these? can you guys get some part #'s or something? i called midway, brownells, warne....no one can get me what i need.

search Optilock.. however, I have never had a problem withthe leupold rings.... I have used the original sako rings, the old redfield rings & bases, the optilock (new style) and leupold rings... I have still yet to have a problem with any of them...

ebay has several sets of original sako rings on there right now... they also have a new tyle set in 30mm and some redfield basses as well....
There's some good advice here for sure. When I bought my Finnbear it had the old style original Sako rings with it. They are super in my opinion. I also have Optilocks on a couple of Tikkas and they are super good too. Those old, original rings really lock down tight.

I got mine here http://www.reliablegun.com/Reliable.html The new ones are even sturdier than the old. expensive
I've had 3 or 4 pairs of Leupold rings on my Sako rifles and have never had a problem with them. From .270, 7RM, 7STW, 300winnie and on up to a .375H&H.

I have this pair that came with an AV I bought NIB back in the late '70s.

I'd always assumed they were Sako rings because they came in the box, but I've never seen another pair like 'em. Never had a problem with them either.

Edited to say late '80s, not '70s.
Muleshoe,

The ringmounts shown in your pic are not Sakos. They are Millets.
IIRC I have a set of Warnes but haven't installed them yet.
Millets?? eeewwwww....!

I always kinda thought they had the looks of a Millet ring, but the doggone things lock up as tight as anything I've ever had. They do scar scopes though.

I think I'd probably still recognize the dealer at that Amarillo gun show who sold me that rifle saying they were Sako rings. grrr...

muleshoe,

The other part of the equation is will the dealer recognize you and what he sold you after more than a decade?

On the other hand, if the Millets worked for you for more than a decade.....

FWIW: I've read on a Sako forum members admit they have been happy with Millet ringmounts even while knowing their true identity.
