Would a Savage 110 .243 be easy to re-barrel to a .308? I thought they were both the same action but I'm no expert. I would like to buy a .308 barrel for my 110 rather than purchase a new .308 rifle.
Im interested in the answers you get cuz i have a 110 in a 7mm-08 that i would like to re-barrel to the 338 federal. I know they are all based on the 308 case.....
Yes the 243 and the 308 share the same action,just a barrel swapis all that's needed you must ensure that you are getting the proper headspacing when this is done.
If and when you do would you be interested in selling the 243 barrel? I'm looking for one to go on my daughters rifle, it's currently a .270,long action,but it will feed the shrter cartridges just fine.
I'm currently loading for her .270 some 130 gr remmy corlokts at about 2600 fps to mimic the recoil of the 243, so far they're pretty accurate,approx. 1 moa with no tweaking of the load. just the first load. I tried,figured no need to experiment further

Stevens .308 is a great, inexpensive rifle if you like 110's. I spent more on rebarreling a Rem. rifle than I spent on either of my Stevens.

The 10 series are SA...
Just think 3 digits LA & 2 digits are SA...
Its a simple barrel switch with the proper tools and a little bit of experience...same bolt face...usually takes longer to mount scope/bases/rings for me....suggest looking over at Savageshooters.com for more info and take off barrels and/or vendors there selling them there
I'm not sure when, but I think savage at one time only had one action,wether it was chambered for the shorter cartridges or not. I could be mistaken. I have seen .243's built on a long action.

All of the Savage 110 series action use the same barrel specs, except for those chambered for the WSM and SAUM cartridges. Since the 243 and 308 use the same bolt head, you can simply swap the barrels, set the headspace, and go to the range.

At one time Savage used a long action for everything. Later they came out with the 10 series action for 308 length cartridges.
Unless your 110 is a very early model with extended bolt nose, you will be able to swap barrels with no problem. Except maybe for getting off the original barrel. Some are tightened severely.
You will need a barrel vise or regular vise for your barrel blocks ( I made mine from hickory), a barrel nut wrench, and either a sized case(not virgin brass) or preferably a headspace gauge. I buy a go gage only and set minimum headspace.
FWIW.....several yrs ago Savage built some large shank (M series) 223 s/shots w/24" ss & blue unfluted bbl's...I currently have three of these all now wearing heavy Pac Nors...I believe the pre Accue trigger actions were left over ML actions...now the large shank actions are reserved for the WSM rds...
Yes...blue actions with blue steel barrels can be very tight...a good vise & action wrench & nut wrench is needed...along with an overnight soak with Kroil and the wife's hair dryer will help removal.....
