Anybody using this stuff in the .257 roberts short action. I am looking for some data on this powder for this cartrige and I cannot find anything. I was wondering if anyone had experimented. If you have the charge and velocity would be much appreciated.

Thanks Guys.

I went to Alliant's site and they don't mention RL-17 with the 257 Roberts. I have loaded it in a 6mm Rem, 284 and 7 Rem Mag. Charge weights are similar to using 4350. I'd try to call Alliant and ask them.

For what it worth Alliant lists a 100 gr bullet in the 6mm Rem with a max load of 44 gr of RL-17. The 257 Roberts case is the same except for the neck. The expansion ratio should allow you to work up to 44 with no pressure and perhaps a bit more with same weight bullet.

what's wrong with H4350?

For loads with RL-17, use IMR-4350 data when in doubt. I did exactly that for making up some RL-17 loads for my 25-06. Never mind that it didn't shoot fer chit, but the point here is that I had no pressure problems using IMR-4350 data.

Nothing is wrong with h4350 I was just wondering if anybody here had any data on RL17. I wanted to experiment with it because I have been getting good results with that powder in my 270win and 243win and I just wanted to get an idea of where to start with a load.

Did you check Lee Reloading data. I don't have my manual in front of me, but I want to say I've seen it in there. What bullet weight would you be working with?

I would like to run the 110 grn accubonds

What's H4350? Is that one of those obsolete powders? wink

I used it in my 257 Roberts AI and as same load with 4350 showed some signs of pressure, R17 showed none what so ever! It shot really well, if I were home I could go to my reloading log and quote you the load data! The whole pretense about R17 was to give higher velocities, with lower pressures! It was in Handloader early this year the write up about it! I got starting load data from the factory online!
