Hi guys, i'm new to the forum and i have a question.

I have an Enfield P17 Eddystone that has been bored out to a 300 win mag. When i bought it, it had been put into a different stock, and looked horrible, so i bought an original stock and trigger guard and put it back to normal. the problem is that i dont have a magazine box that will fit the larger cartridge. (it never had one when i bought it) does anyone know where i can buy one that will fit in the original stock? or does anyone know hown to modify the 30:06 magazine box to fit? thanks!

MST,

WELCOME to 24hrcf!!

I have a similar rifle, a Remington model 1917 that started out in its life with me in 1973 as a bone stock military 30/06 other than a Pretty nice Walnut aftermarket handle. During its life with me it has had two stocks and three barrels as well as other upgrades. You are not going to like the work and results of trying to get that rifle to work well as a 300 Win Mag in the old stock. Mine is now a 338/8mm RemMag wildcat and ever since it became a 300WBY 30 or so years ago I have been using a Remington model 700 magnum length magazine box. With an aftermarket slimmed down stock these can be made to work pretty easily and well. Cuts down on the weight, too.

VAnimrod from here was looking for an original P17 stock, he might have a nice one to trade you. Good luck.

Do you have any links to any info on the aftermarket slimmed down stocks you are talking about i would like to look into that, thanks for your reply.

The stock that is now on my P17 is a Boyds JRS model. Just google boyd's rifle stocks and you should find them pretty easily. When mine came in I had the gunsmith who was doing the install, bedding etc open up the grip area a bit and slim down the pistol grip area some as well. I am pretty sure they will sell you one now that is finished and checkered and ready to go.

Gunparts sells an opened box,but the orginal 3.4 box can be lenghtened at the back easly by flipping the end around and rewelding.If you shorten the box for 4 shot and straighten the bottom metal it will help on slimming. But it always is going to be heavy looking.

It sounded to me like his bottom metal had already been straightened, but maybe I read into the post that which was not there. My suggestions assumed as much, it would help a lot if we could have a photo or two to work from.

MST;

If you decide to go with an aftermarket stock, I could be interested in your original stock, if it is indeed original and unaltered.

Hey guys, my bottom metal HAS NOT been straightened, i am trying to keep the appearance as original as i can. (well as good as i can get with a sporterized rifle anyway.) VAnimrod, The stock has a few bubba'd places on it i will take a pic so you can see it. the only thing i dont have is the handguards, etc. but it still has the steel buttplate, brass disk, and sling swivels.
