Let's see the members, Full/stock-Mannlichers rifles. What's the favorite? Calibers,Makers?
rifle - Your collection is nice, really nice. I have a CZ in 7x57 and am dickering on one in 6.5x55 right now. I'll try to post a pic. Had a Husqvarna in 270 and let it go because I did not like the cartridge at all. Rooster
The Ruger RSI went for a walk this week in the deer woods. I went out with 6 rounds and returned with same. Watched a 4 point, but he wasn't done growing yet. I hope he didn't get into the gun fight over the hill from me?

Nice stuff!
I have a 7x57 carbine,not a full stock,luv the little gun...
Remington Model 7MS Custom Shop 7mm-08 talley base and rings holding Luppy 2.5-8 - - no pixs it is in the truck for a week long hunting trip.
Mannlicher 6.5x54 and Husqvarna 30/06
Remington 700 35 Whelen
Those top 2 are friggin good looking rifles.
That's only cuzz I don't have a really good pic of the bottom one.
Seeing a full stock rifle with no front sight really jars my nerves! Something's wrong there!

Bruce
Agreed, that's why all of mine have a front sight.
When I spotted this MS in .358W. I had to have it. It was not inexpensive!
I prefer this Brno 22F in 8-57 as is not nearly as wide at its balance point as the MS.
Steelhead - Nice. I've had a weakness for full stocks since I was a kid. My neighbor had a remarkable collection. I just swapped for a NIB 6.5 CZ tonite to go with my 7x57.
Rooster, I've got a couple of the CZ fs rifles also, the 6.5 and a 9.3X62. They both shoot very well but I really wish they would trim the stocks up a bit. It would be great if they would just go back to the brno stock like savage has. I really don't understand why they don't. I would be more than happy to pay a little more for them that way, they would still be a bargain.
Scott;
I really like the wood on the .35 Whelen, very cool rifle overall.
With appologies for reposting this photo, this is a Carl Gustav built 1903 vintage 96 Swede in 6.5x55 that I reworked for my late father, who passed it onto our eldest.
I must admit it has no front or rear sight.
She likes it because almost nobody else has a full wood rifle and well, it seems to work well for her.
Thanks to all who've posted here. Full stocked rifles are very nice to look at.

SAKO .358Win, 2x7 Leupold.
225 Noslers at work.
A pair of .30-06 Springfields:
And a Ruger 10/22:
Is that Sako an early one with the two piece fore arm? I've always thought about getting one of those. It must work well as it is laying next to a dead animal as it should be...!!
Thanks for joining in, guys.
Talking about the sights,I once saw one that had been Magna-ported,it appeared to have some "charred" wood to go along with it....
Some beautiful full stock rifles here.
I luv em.
Rifle, Thanks for starting the thread.
There were several full stock rifles in my house when I was a kid growing up, and they have a special place for me.

I was thinking the same, in fact a FS with just a front sight and Lyman or Redfield steel receiver sight looks the "rightest" to me. If a scope goes on, it needs to be a small straight tube.

U nailed it!!
That's how my Step Dad's full stock rifles of yesteryear were set up; front and rear(Redfield Peep) iron sights, with Lyman Alaskan scopes.
this got me all worked up and I bought another one today. A Whitworth in .270,be here in a few days...
custom 98mauser 19 in. barrel with exibition wood fully eng. in european style game scenes by john adams sr. express leaf rear sight with butt plate trap door cart. holder built it 39 years ago. also spoon bolt handle.
Another 10-22....
just to let those who are interetsed
i was in mitchell south dakota a few weeks back and there was a cz550 full stock in 7x57. it still may be there
i should have bought but did not
it was $750
[quote=rifle]Is that Sako an early one with the two piece fore arm? I've always thought about getting one of those. It must work well as it is laying next to a dead animal as it should be...!!
Yes, it's the two piece forend. I've had it apart to have the rebore job done and to install the recoil pad. The steel hangar they use is pretty unique.
Here's another cow elk it downed. The herd fed out into a meadow just before dark and paraded right past me at maybe 40-50 yards. You have to watch out that you don't have two side by side or that Nosler will will do double duty. I've never had one stay in a carcass.
Another 10-22....
I had that same full stock 10-22, and I gave it to my youngest son who is named after my Step Dad. Some pretty heavy stuff going on here....
these are all greatlooking fellas, can you buy any of them new?I would sure like one.
I know Ruger and CZ still offer full-stocked bolt action rifles.
You guys are killing me. I've always liked the look of the mannlicher stocks and see myself searching gunbroker now.
A pic I have shown before and I need to take some current ones but just have not.
Steelhead
Whats the story with the 700.Did you buy it? have it built its beautifull
Stocked by a friend and barrel cut. Added a 3 position safety (I didn't want one but he insisted), otherwise the rest is factory.
Nice run there!!! ALL vintage!!
Seeing a full stock rifle with no front sight really jars my nerves! Something's wrong there!
That rifle is mine. The bottom rifle is more of the "classic" full stock with carbine length barrel and open sights. I had the 7x57 for a while and decided to stock a custom .257 Roberts with a full stock. I wanted something different, something no one else had. I knew it would wear a scope and be used in typical deer hunting scenarios. It is a longer than "classic" barrel. It has a large cheekpiece that is not typical for full stocks and is made from a laminated blank. And, as you have noticed, it has no front sight. I didn't feel the need as long as I knew it would be scoped only. If I ever get rid of it, the next guy can put on whatever he feels like putting on, and he can carve the stock into whatever he feels like carving it into. In the meantime, I guess I have the only full stock rifle without a front sight. You don't have to like it. It's mine.
It does shoot Barnes 100 TSX's into 3/4" though. Pretty is as pretty does.

Remington Model 7MS from the Remington Custom Shop in .350 Remington Magnum. A light, compact elk thumper extraordinaire.
I have been having some strange issues uploading pics maybe it is that my old puter is wore slap-ice-out. Anyhoohere are a few from me:
work has only just begun on this one I will rebarrel back to 6.5 MS and I have some other stuff to do too, but that is going to be a really long-term project
Would you believe a straight-swapped a guy an AR15 parts gun for this? It is 1952 in 30-06, with Pachmyar swing over mount and Pecar variable scope.
Here is the gun I swapped
as you can bet, I kept the holder THAT AINT FER SALE AT NO PRICE, BOY!!!!!!!!

that top gun a FN? Stock shape looks like a Higgins 50. I have one in 30-06 and it's mate in 270 too
iambrb,
Yup,
I picked it up a few years ago. It has been reblued and I refinished the stock and added a 1" pad. I also shortened the forend a little bit. It was used to take my son's first deer.
Now we will wait for a grandson since the stock was shortened.
It really shoots well with a load of IMR4759 and a RN 150 gr.

Ive got a brno 22f 8x57.used this afternoon .antlerless season.
dink
nice rifle though, you borrow it ?
got it from someone who was afraid to shoot it.
i heard he was a girly man
those m/s rifles, sorry carbines are some of the sweetest! been after one in 8x56ms for a while. a friend who has 8 of them says they must b asexual because once you put one in the safe they start breeding.
This is not my Rifle. But I sure wish it was. One of the finest Mannlicher style stocks I have ever seena photo of.
that is very nice.all the way around,
Ruger 77 RSI - .308
Always dug that rifle and cool seeing the Axis hide. I just sent out my first one to get tanned.
And, it shoots as good as it looks.....
GWB
So do my full stock Whelen, still need to get it checkered though.
Steyr - 7x57
Here's my BRNO 22F 8x57 mauser.

A new one to the herd...
once it get's here, this one's my first !
hey,
we have twins. what caliber is yours in ?
getting excited as a kid at christmas to get mine in !
thanks donny !
Mine is the lowly little .270..but it's sweet to shoot!
Y'all are killing me!!!! Absolutely exquisite rifles!! Perhaps one day.
muzzleblast, the 8X56 is probably one of the easier ones to find but do not buy one sight unseen. More often than not the bore is toast as the ammo was easy to obtain and it was corrosive....
Yes, they seem to multiply, I didn't show quite all of them and have no idea where they come from...
Good Luck to Ya!
WOW!!! There are some great looking rifles in this thread. I have to admit that I've never even given a thought to owning a Full Stocked rifle, but that might change.
I'd love to own this one. An unmolested BRNO 22F in 8x57.
I could make some elk very unhappy
I think that if Remington wanted to do a great classic rifle, this would be hard to beat. Just follow these slender elegant lines and run a 20" tube and sell em for the same price as the CDL.
They'd be an instant hit... IMHO.
But it would still be a Remington? I would be afraid that the Remington crowd might not appreciate the classic lines of a full stock and then they would be sold a Wal-mart.They tried the "custom shop" thing and used plywood for a stock.
Not really "classic" in my book....
Ruger did it with walnut,I think Kimber could....
Nothing "wrong" with a Remington, but the Kimber 84 would be a superb choice....I think they could even retain the 22" tube and really have a winner!
The Remmy model 7 from the custom shop is a dandy, but I just don't care for laminated stocks - and they're heavier than necessary.
The Ruger is a peach and I'd love to have one of the newer models...but I would rather have a bit more barrel than they supply... 20 or 21 would be great for looks and balance.
My $.02
Here is one I'm working on. Carl Gustafs 1915 6.5X55 laid into a birds eye maple stock. Original barrel that has been turned down and I rewelded a new bolt handle. Trying to decide what finish to put on the stock. I want to darken it a little but really high light all the figure and grain. Need to get it D&T for a scope and get it reblued.
Nice stick of wood!! You must add sights as a finishing touch.
Perfect caliber too!!
Cooper .17 HMR
Ebony fore-end tip, case hardened receiver and rings, Leupold 3 X 9 compact
Shoots good, too.
My Brno 7X57:
A full-stocked rifle without a front sight is like a pretty woman without a nose.
Bruce
so guys, how well do these things shoot ?
My experience has been 1.5 inches or often less,3 shot groups shot slowly, heat is their enemy. You do have to learn how to shoot them on the bags, most do not like any forearm pressure.
My home made full stock.

I agree, the Ruger RSI 77 needs a couple of more inches to the barrel. I always wondered why they chose 18 1/2" for that model and 20" for the RSI single shot? I use to have an old Interarms Mark X Mannlicher back in the early 80`s. I was dumb for ever selling that one!!
I have a new one coming..a 1910 Mannlicher! It appears to be in good shape, just old with no messing around. That little round is a thunder stick....270 grain bullet at 2100!
Good going Rifle! I really like my 9X56 with the hornady 250 gr at about 2000 fps. Your Express should be even more fun..
It will be here next week,it came with 4 boxes of Kynoch ammo, which I may not shoot.I'm sure they are Berdan primed and I don't mess with that any more.I made ammo years ago for one of my buds from Remington 8x57. It's supposed to even have the cleaning rod in the butt as well.Thank God,no scope has been added. Now to find 270 grain RN bullets...

M-S 1952 Improved Carbine - 7x57 - Leupold Pioneer 4x in Adjusto-mount

Any luck on adjusting the single trigger?
I haven't needed to adjust it...fine how it is.

man...that '52 is a beaut!
is the action smooth on that Mossie???
The Ruger RSI went for a walk this week in the deer woods. I went out with 6 rounds and returned with same. Watched a 4 point, but he wasn't done growing yet. I hope he didn't get into the gun fight over the hill from me?
I like these things,I like to walk, sit and glass, move again. You do have to accept them for what are, they're not target or bench rifles, they are walking guns.
One of mine is a Remington Custom Shop Model Seven in 7mm-08. I traded for it because the deal was right, I love Mannlicher stocks (you either love 'em or hate 'em...not much in between) and I thought it would be a handy walking around rifle. It shoots silver box Wal Mart 140gr Winchester Power Points going 2680fps (+/- 20 fps!) into 2" AT 200 YARDS, and 140gr Hornady Light Mags chrono 2950 fps, though the group opens up a little. It wears a Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x with Boone & Crockett BDC reticle. If I load 140gr Nosler Partitions or 100-130 Barnes TSX, tell me what I can't kill with this rig. This performance has really made me rethink my ideas about needing my 270 for longer range. The truth is, my 270 doesn't group any better than this, and the bullet trajectories are amazingly similar.
No, if I ever go on a brown bear hunt, it stays in the safe. I may be a rifle loony but I'm not totally crazy!
OK boys,it;s been a few days,we need to see more photos!!

THAT is a beaut! Nice rifle.
Here's a pre-64 358 Norma in a MPI stock. I've used most 35cal bullet over the yrs and have settled on 280 Swifts for everything.
that's an interesting set-up,what's the barrel length? I didn't know MPI made such a stock...way cool!
Thanks,
Here are a couple more pics.
7x57Hunter,
The old girl looks like it just came from the factory! Sweet rifle
I have a 4x Leupold that is a 7/8" tube in the same type of mounts that came on my pre 64 Alaskan.....
rifle It's 20" now after 20yrs at 24",I honestly can't detect any difference in ease of hitting or killing ability dropping 100fps. The little nosepiece mpi provides is a little wimpy so my gunsmith built a heavy duty 1 out of alum. It's slim and soaks up recoil nicely.
Let's go guys..got to be more out there!!
My home made full stock.

Nice rifle!
My homemade flinter...
Is that all 4 calibers of the Winchesters? nice collection!!
I love them, my Husqvarna in 30-06 from 59, my ruger international RS in 243 from 84 and my H&R ultra rifle model 301 in 243 from about 71 they make me smile,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

As an aside, the SMC in 6.5 x 55 does not just reside in a safe.
It drew blood on its first outing. Nailed this sow and the shoats just kept coming. I'd have shot more but I only brought 5 rounds. LOL

I'm about to get to the point where full stocked rifles are my mainstays, along with a few levers and a 223AI of course.
I now need to get a 22LR full stocked rifle.

Love the Zephyr, Northman. I bought one used 30 yrs ago. Only thing it needed was a magazine! That was not an easy find but $125 later I was good to go.

Yeah, he had a perfect winter pelt. I had him skinned out and had it made into a hanging pelt. Turned out very nice. It hangs behind the TV, much to my wife's dismay...
I wish Brno made that Effect in 9.3X74R.
I'd buy one if they did.
Any Euro rimmed caliber would have been more appropriate. As light as the Effect is, the 9.3 would have been 'fun' to shoot!
It was an oz or two over six lbs before I put a 2X7 Leupold on it. I think it's seven lbs give or take an oz now. Been 2-3 months since I weighed it.
I would be OK with a 7 pound 9.3X74R. I think it would kick some, but not so much that I'd dislike it. My Ruger #1 is heavier. It's about 9 pounds scoped, and it's very easy on the shoulder for such a powerful rifle.
Ruger 77 250 Savage
Since PB is gone, Rem 700 35 Whelen again.
Ruger 77 250 Savage
Damn that's nice.
Wow , Steel those are sharp!!
How does that Effect shoot? While I'd prefer a more appropriate chambering for them as well, a .30-06 version is on my short list if I can find one once funds become available.

Maybe you would be, but you'd have to handle recoil really well. It is well past brisk with just the 30.06 chambering.
Basher, I've only fired it once for groups and that was with ammo loaded for an 03 that I had on hand. It stayed under 1.5" with no problem. My buddy that traded it to me said that he easily got MOA with his reloads and also with military match.

Excellent news. I'd heard a few reports of them not grouping terribly well, and a few saying they were excellent. Glad to hear yours does well. If you ever wanna part ways with it... ;D
Thought I'd bump this thread back to the top with my Sako in 222. It has turned into my woods roaming rifle and does a real job on the odd coyote. It is light weight and fairly accurate. It will come close to an inch at 100 yards with 45 grain bullets but it can't stand heavy bullets.

Wow! That is a real beauty. I have a much abused and modified version, unfortunately not full stocked like yours. I wasn't even aware that the L46/Vixen models included a full stocked version. Mine was rechambered to 223 Rem at some point. It is one of the most accurate rifles I own despite everything. The rifling twist on these things is about 1:14 and, as you noted, they don't do heavy bullets well. I got the 60gr Partition to shoot OK, but mine excels with the 55 gr and under bullets.

I'm not sure what the model number is on this thing. I was told it is called a Riihimaki Sako. I think that is kind of a pre L46/Vixen. It has a removable 3 shot magazine that I'm not real wild about because of the possibility of loss. It works good and doesn't stick out the bottom, so it is still easy to carry in the hand. A replacement would probably run me about $200 if I could find one. This one is rapidly gaining favorite rifle status just because I carry it so much in the off season.

I have a 257 Roberts with a short barrel and full stock, but it isn't an RSI. It is old...I think it might be what Bill Ruger was aiming for when he came up with the RSI and he nearly got it. He sure matched the quality of the walnut!
