My current favorite is cdlsf ought-six/Ti Alaskan, Talley, VXIII2.5-8B&C. It shoots terrific.

My thoughts were, Cerakote, new after-market trigger(because I have an extra) and have the stock maxxguard/painted.

Anyone had a rifle "improved/changed" and it not shoot as good? I've been on the fence for months about tearing it a part and putthing it back together different and it not shooting as well.

I wouldn't touch it. I have a fundamental aversion to messing with what works.

The "improvements"you cite are largely cosmetic. The stock is synthetic;and I am neither here nor there on cerakote and other miracle finishes unless I were a professional guide.I don't mind a beat up rifle.

And improving the looks of a synthetic stock is, to me, like putting a sexy black silk dress on a [bleep].

I'm having a barreled action dropped into a Borden Rimrock stock; I am not even bothering to paint it.

What other big game rifles do you have and what and where do you hunt?

Instead of spending money what you like now I suggest that you shop for another design and sell one of your guns that you don't use as much.

I prefer the M70 and Kimber designs for their CRF, M70 type safeties etc.

My other big game:

Kampfeld 250 Savage A.I., 1954 Savage 300 EG, Remmy 375HH/cerakoted, floated in a McMillan.

My walk out the door hunts are in Va. I hope to be in Maine bear this year and Tx pig.

I have a Kimber Montana 257 Bob with a VX3 3.5-10(That I'll never use, it will end up as Jack's (son/17mnths old) first rifle. It was my dad's and he preferred my 700 VLS 223 so we swapped. (The Kimber was a birthday gift from me to him.)

I have an aversion to messing with things that works too, hence my delay with changes. The maxxguard is cool stuff though, I had a 7mag Ti that had it and I really liked the gel-like grip.

I won't let anyone touch a reliable proven rifle unless it's to cure a serious mechanical defect;looks don't matter much to me.

well, i guess i've never seen a new/nicer trigger ever make a gun shoot worse... and i think i'd put a nice wood stock in it. oh, i know some may have problems w/wood but i'm still fairly young yet and have'nt run into any issues with wood. i still like a NICE looking wood stock.

Yep, lots of pixie dust and magic that goes into making one of the most simple things in the world shoot well. It amazes how askeered folks are of rifles.

Unless you mess with the action itself or screw up the bedding, I don't see how a new trigger or a coat of paint is gonna change anything. However, properly adjusted, a Rem trigger is pretty good and I too believe in not fixing what ain't broke.

A trigger change is not going to mess up your accuracy. Neither is a paint job.

I wish my 7-08 Mountain Guide was stretched out into a .280 Mountain Guide, there's one in the Classifieds that I've been drooling over.

if the rifle shot to my satisfaction, i would not change a thing. if it didn't, i'd have the trigger adjusted, bed the action, and probably float the barrel. if it still didn't shoot like i wanted, i'd sell it.

Nope not even a cleaning lately.

My 308 Kimber Montana is going to go to IonBond for a black DLC (pvd process) coating that will make it one of these.....



When I get it back, I think I'll put my 2-7x33 Loopy VX3 with LR duplex on it, just to give it a more around the world versatility
