Never been a fan of the .308 caliber, not sure why. Never really own one for very long. Bought a used Ruger MKII in .30-06, never shot it and had it rebarelled in .35 Whelen. Had Rem .308 Win LTR, shot a box of factory ammo and had it rebarelled as a .260 Rem. I have a CIL bolt action .30-30 Win for a project gun but it's at the back of the safe and I haven't shot a box of ammo throught it.

Saw this Winchester on Hunting BC for a good price and figured I'd give it a try. Stainless Winchester M70 in .300 WSM in the camo Dura-Touch stock. Cycles well most of the time, will just have to play with the spring a bit for 100% reliability.

Steve, always been a 26, 28 and 33 caliber fan myself and detested the 30.
Until I owned a 300 WSM, I have 3 in the house now.

155 Scenars at 3,300 and 220 NP's at 2,700, same point of impact at 100 yards.
The 155's shoot like a 7 mag and the 220's will out penetrate any of the 33's and 35's

Where else can you find that kind of versatility?


Not to mention, the 125's shoot are freaking accurate.

I'll echo that. My 300 WSM has impressed the hell out of me in every way. The '06 rifles are jealous and the sweetheart .260 is even starting to get a little nervous....

The 300 WSM is a good cartridge.....gives good velocities easily,accurate,and doesn't rattle your cranium when you touch it off.......hard not to like it, but I try....

Steve, some judicious 600-emery work on the bottom of the feed rails can be a real help to the M70/WSM feeding.

I'm expecting an Edge for my M70 300 WSM in a couple weeks...

I really liked the cartridge, but didn't like the rifle that it came in (a CZ Model 3--too heavy). I probably should not have traded a rifle that shot as well as that one did. But I kept my dies and brass and will end up with a Montana or a Model 70 in .300 WSM before too long.

i'm a 30 cal slut of the highest order! i bought the WSM in a CZ3 production over run and put it into a mcmillan. then i got the MT, i love that little bugger. But then i love everything except the 7mm for some reason? had a 7 mag for all of 3 weeks, shot it twice and got rid of it. so i know how you feel.

Thats a good looking rifle! I really like my 700 300WSM. Its work on elk, deer, and antelope so far. Shot pretty good with a bunch of different loads.

Like you I have not been a .30 cal fan but tried the 300 WSM and kept it. I have not found anything not to like about it.

155 Scenars totay Rock Stars with R17 and like SU35 said the 125 TNT w/R15 shoots tiny lil bug holes as well. Spect either load will do fine for yotes...grin

It doesn't seem to be a feed rail issue, just the follower I believe. First and second round feed fine but on the last one, the follower tilts back andthe front edge of the follower hangs up on the feed ramp causing the bolt to miss the last round.

Nice rifle, Dober. I am setting my .300 WSM up pretty much identically to yours, except in blue and maybe a 6x36 instead of variable.

I really like the WSM. Decent velocities, great accuracy and mine shoots most loads to the same point of impact. I have felt for a long time that I would rather skip the .30-06 and go straight to a WSM or Win Mag, because there's never seemed to be that much difference in recoil to me.

I like to launch the corpulent 180 Accubombs in mine.

I'd suspect the 155 Scenars would really carry the mail. *grins*

Originally I was going 6x36 Leo w/dotz but the 3-10 looked lonely so I went that way.

Plus, I have a small and underprivaledged 30 in the makings and the 6 is gonna ride shotgun on that one. Thinking I'll call this rifle Rodney as the 308 don't get much luv..

I've never luved the .308 and can't say why. Do love the 6x36, though. That's my fave.

.30 cal is pretty darn practical, for better or worse <g>.

Just an update on how she looks now.

Very strange but I've heard this is common. The reason I say strange is because my FN PBR XP 300 wsm has never had any feeding issues. It's basically a classic action but I'm wondering if it has a different follower. I've had problems before with the winchester model 70 pushfeed when they were using the el-cheapo plastic followers. As far as accuracy, my 300 wsm is extremely accurate and that gives extreme confidence whether I am at a shoot or bearing down on an animal. By the way, your rifle is very nice. I'm sure you will learn to love the 300 wsm as most of us here who have given them a try can attest to (besides bobinNH????). I don't know why he got rid of his since it was one of the most accurate rifles he's ever owned

I too love this round. I bought a Browning A Bolt II when the 300 WSM first came out and it is my go-to gun. I've shot everything from black bear in Alaska to pronghorn to deer and elk, it does them all. My wife loved mine so much I bought her a model 7 CDL and she loves shooting it, not too much recoil for her.

Still have the Duratouch stock. I actually like the look, fit and feel of it but it's still just a flimsy Tupperwear stock. And I was due for a McMillan order
