The local shop gave me a price a month or so ago on them. They are selling for the same price as the standard black "X" guns [$329 at my local shop].

So how in the helll do you find out what these cost, via Gunbroker or Gallery of Guns...

all I see is where they want everyone to sign up their email addresses...

The small dealer wholesale price is $284.58, but I can't find anybody who actual has them.

A sporter weight 223 or 22/250 would be of interest as well.

I'd love a .223 Marlin "X" gun, but only if it's made on a .223 sized action. That mini "X" gun action could be the basis for a bunch of short small cartridges in a gun the average guy can afford.

Just think of a 22Hornet, 222, 223, 6.5 Grendal, 7.62x39, 30AR, etc in a bolt gun for a price under $400. grin

A sporter weight 22-250 isn't hard to do, since you only need 3 parts:

1 - Marlin XS7 for a donor in 243, 7mm-08, or 308
2 - 22" Stevens 200 1-9" ROT 223 take-off barrel
3 - 22-250 finish reamer

[quote=DeerTracker]Wonder what the twist is on the 22-250?.....quote]

http://www.marlinfirearms.com/Firearms/CenterfireBoltAction/x7vh.asp

I'm so frustrated with Marlin. Who does their market research and where is the research done?
From what I've read during the last few years the fastest growing aspect of hunting has been in the PREDATOR market. Think a short barrel, light, fast handling 22 centerfire with twist rates like 1 in 7,8 or 9".
It has taken Marlin 3 or 4 years to introduce a .224 centerfire and when they finally bring a model to the market they introduce basically a prairie dog rifle or a Sunday range gun.

A 1-14" twist????!
How many bullet makers are producing 60 grain plus .224 bullets currently??
And how many articles have been written about using heavy .224 bullets for long range shooting and hunting????

Marlin has had really neat bolt actions in the past and they failed due to poor marketing. Last time I looked they had no email or contact phone number listed. When you do find the number to call......Remington answers the phone! (A year and a half year ago for me)

a 1 in 14" twist??????????????????????????????
Posted By: Homesteader Re: New Marlin X7VH - 06/05/11
Armen - +1 on the .223 version. If it's as good as my .243 XS7 then it'll be a keeper for sure...especially if it comes in the camo stock. Regards, Homesteader.

Find a used minty Savage 22-250 barrel. Will screw right into your Marlin. Sometimes a bit has to be faced off the barrel (breech end), sometimes not.
All you need is the nut wrench, a barrel vise and a "go" headspace gauge.
Savages are twisted for up to 63 gr Sierras at least and will weigh in the same as a 7mm08 Marlin. XC7C.

A heavy .224 bullet will shoot very well, but in a light "walk about" rifle, I think you're at cross purposes. They are not 600 yard rifles.

I don't think the X7s are failing at all. I see a ton at the range and the price point for every great "borrowed" idea is incredible. All it needs to fix it is an ADL trigger guard and free floating. (looks like a 700, has a great trigger ,AR style extractor, Weatherby bolt & shroud, Savage barrel attachment method, 700 safe and stock)

Have a switch barrel 270/30-06/338-06/35 Whelen/375 Whelen Imp and 400 Whelen imp. One Leupold 2.5-8x36 covers them all.

Barrel changes take about 15 minutes. Total cost is a lot less than 3 700s and it shoot 3 in 1" or better in any caliber. What's not to like ?

Sounds like Marlin is taking specifications from their brother. Remington also frustrated us with their initial twist rates for the 260. Now you can get a Model Seven 260 in a 1:9 twist.

Marlin is Remington now.I hope Remington does good with Marlin.
Posted By: oldman1942 Re: New Marlin X7VH - 06/06/11
Marlin is not Remington. Both and others are part of Cerberus capital managment LP.

OK but like the man said,if you call Marlin you get Remington. The old Marlin plant is closed.Where do they make the Marlins? The Marlin barrels are not stamped JM any longer.they are now stamped Rep.

If you go to the Marlin web site and click on news you can scroll down to the press release "Remington to acquire Marlin Firearms"They are all the same.

Looks like Bushmaster is moving to a Remington plant in NY.

I've shot a lot of predator with a lot of different cartridges and never felt handicapped with a 1-14" ROT 22-250 shooting 55 or 60 grain bullets. Most of the predators that I've shot were under 300 yards and the majority were called in under 100 yards. I think that Marlin would have been smarter to go with a quicker ROT, but I don't see the 1-14" ROT being a significant negative factor for a varmint rifle that is intended (mostly) for an entry-level, factory ammo shooting, market niche.

That said, my Marlin XS-7 parts gun in 22-250 has a 1-9" ROT Stevens 200 223 barrel, rechambered to 22-250, installed.

My Marlin X guns are chambered in 22-250, 243 (factory specs), 257 Roberts, 25-284, 260, 7x57, and 308 (factory specs). Not prefect, but a really good value for under $300 in CM or under $375 in SS. I can live with the factory specs Marlin X guns, but have installed metal trigger-guards on all of mine and have installed a couple of Boyd's Prairie Hunter

Nice, I bet they are shooters for sure.
Posted By: oldman1942 Re: New Marlin X7VH - 06/19/11
Yes all the Marlins are shooters but the trigger is more like Glock than a Savage.
Lower safe limit is about 2 pounds, not ounces like the Savage.

My 270/22-06. Shoots quite well.

I went down to price one in 22.250 and Davidson's has the twist on the 22.250 listed as a one in 10, not a one in 14..

evidently, they are listening to the public that the one in 14 is old school and folks want more versatility...

or it was a mistake on their product launch...

or third, the barrels are being made by Begara, as they are in love with a one in 10 twist for everything...

I was quoted $360 delivered and out the door...
Posted By: Seafire Re: New Marlin X7VH - 06/23/11
Addendum:

from the Davidson's Web site on the 22.250..

note stating it has a one in 10 twist barrel..

Action: Bolt Action
Stock: Black Synthetic
Capacity: 4+1
Receiver: Blue
Sights: No Sights
Barrel Length: 26" Heavy Barrel
Overall Length: 46"
Weight: 7.75 lbs
Butt Plate Recoil Pad: Soft-Tech Recoil Pad
Packaging: Scope Base Included
Additional Features 1: Rifling 1:10, Pillar Bedded
Additional Features 2: ProFire Adjustable Trigger, Fluted Bolt
Posted By: nsaqam Re: New Marlin X7VH - 06/23/11
Marlin lists the twist on the 22-250 as being 1-14.

I think I'd trust Marlin's own site more than Davidson's.
Posted By: oldman1942 Re: New Marlin X7VH - 06/30/11
problem is NOBODY cares who you trust.

As ususal you are talking, while others actually build/own the rifles. Left with nothing to do but cut and paste old posts..... how sad.

Going up to the range tomorrow with my ANIB 7mm08 camo Marlin and 4-12 camo Bushie ...... did I mention both were bought HERE ?

have another Hopfenmalz..... it will ease your pain of being obsolete.

I'd tend to think that Marlin's spec would be right as well.

FWIW, I called Marlin and was told that the X7VH in 22-250 has a 1-14" ROT, so it appears that either Davidson's had a special run made with a 1-10" ROT or it was a typo on their part.

Radical Idea:

1. Buy one
2. Measure the twist
3. Post results here

New (to me, bought here) X7S 7mm08 dropped 5 Federal Blue box in 3/4" untuned.

Currently getting the barrel free float, glass bed the action treatment, glass bed stiffening dowel in fore end (already had the ADL guard).

Just ordered a Nikon, rings and camo tape (barrel & bipod) all in Realtree APG.

Posted By: 260Remguy Re: New Marlin X7VH - 07/08/11
I have a few Marlin X guns and know them to be shooters:

22-250, XS-7 with a rechambered Stevens 200 223 barrel.
243, XS-7
257 Roberts, XS-7 with A&B Savage 110 specs barrel
25-284, XS-7 with A&B Savage 110 specs barrel
260, XS-7 with A&B Savage 110 specs barrel
7x57, XL-7 with A&B Savage 110 specs barrel
308, XS-7S

So., Which Nikon did you get? I have been more and more impressed with what Marlin and Savage are bringing to the table every year. I had the pleasure of shooting a few new Savages 12 wit hthe Accu-trigger. This little .223 was a tack driver. The owner told me he has ordered another one in .308 as well. He topped the .223 with a Nikon M-223 3-12 Rapid Action Turret that due to range limitations we were only able to shoot at 200 yards. What a blast and I was impressed with sub 2 in. results off sand bags. This is the first model 12 Savage I have been able to shoot. Much Nicer then my mdl 112 .223 single shot. They have a bunch of left handed rifles coming out on this platform thankfully as well.
Thank you for that Savage!

There you go; first hand experience. I shoot 52 - 55gr bullets out of my Savage Model 12 (1:12 ROT) and it works for me..
Posted By: Steelhead Re: New Marlin X7VH - 07/09/11
Wonder if they will EVER got out of the stone ages with twist. Guess what, ain't no trick to shoot 52-60's in a 1-8" twist, try shooting a 75 in the 1-14"
Posted By: SuperCub Re: New Marlin X7VH - 07/09/11
I'd bet there are more folks out there shooting 52s & 55s in their 223s and 22/250s than 75s.

I like a faster twist as well, but to most varminters and target shooters the slower twist works just fine.

.
Posted By: oldman1942 Re: New Marlin X7VH - 07/12/11
Yup, the 22-250 is a Varmint cartridge 55-63s work fine.

If you want to shoot 1000 yards a 6.5 x 284 is much better.
