Has anyone had experience hollowpointing FMJ military .223 ammo? I have a bunch of it and was wondering if it could be made more effective with something like the Forster Hollow Point accessory. I read this could cause the lead core to blow out, leaving the jacket in the bore. That wouldn't be too cool on the next shot. But a 1/16" HP shouldn't weaken the bullet such that the core could blow thru the jacket. But, the base is exposed lead...
In the 50'sand 60's NZ. the deer cullers often used fmj in 303 and they would just use a pair of side cutters to nip the nose off for good results on deer. A meplat trimmer would do this neatly and uniformly on your 223 fmj's and would serve the same purpose as a hp without opening the tip enough to allow the jacket and core to seperate on firing.
