It's been years since I've owned a 700 of any flavor.

I want to know the differences between the 700 SPS , 700 BDL, and 700 HCR all in stainless.

And if you own the HCR II, please chime in as well.

I know about the coating on the HCR, but are there any differences in the action itself among the 3? Is the finished product quality different?

Thanks!

Chris
I'm sure 99% of people will tell you there's no difference in any of the actions. Just the finish on them, with the SPS being the obvious worst finish and some of them aren't all that bad.
Yep..finish and cosmetics is all...the BDL is pretty well gone out of the line up and I might have missed this session but what is an HCR?
Sorry, meant to say XCR...
So basically the Mtn rifle, XCR and XCR II, and a BDL Stainless would have better machine work on the metal than say the SPS stainless would.

Did I get that right?
The SPS stainless should be the same machining. I believe he was referring to the blue finish.
I would expect that the actions all come off the same CNC machinery... can't say I know that for a fact but it makes sense.

The SPS's, especially the early stainless ones, have a "rough" finish. Like, literally rough. Like 400-grit sandpaper rough. smile
The only difference between all of them is the exterior finish. Some have bolt jeweling.
good enough! Thanks gents...
I think the CDL uses match grade bluing........... grin
My SPSS feels and looks like its been bead blasted, its definitely not shiny, cant have shine on a Sniper file. shocked

Description: SPSS 308, maybe a little rough, but not bad, either.

I remember one early SPSS in the gunshop that had a finish so rough it's about take your skin off. It almost seemed galvanized- like there were little tiny globs.

My buddy bought one around then that he reported as being similar.

The one I just bought (.223 SPSS) has a rough finish, compared to any other stainless rifle I've bought, but not that rough.

My favorite Rem finish on all levels is the XCR coating. They blast (or whatever it is they do) those to a very smooth finish, and then the coating is very smooth too. Plus it flat works.

My least favorite Rem finish is how they did the bottom metal of my Sendero. It's like that fake-metal coating you used to see on plastic kids toys. Awfully cheesy, and garish.
