Posted By: AdkHunter Sako 75 Recall - 10/29/04
I just received a call from my dealer who stated there was a recall on my Finnlight which I purchased in Sept.. He stated there was a problem with the metal used, and that I would be getting a replacement gun. I called customer service today at Baretta USA, and a recorded message stated I should not fire the gun until they have determined whether my gun is involved in the recall. I provided my SN as requested, and am now waiting for a return call.

There was a post by Sako 75 back in Sept. with a picture of a Sako that had blown up. If this is what can happen due to this metal problem, and my gun is in fact included in the recall, I'm probably very lucky. I've fired over 100 rounds through it, including two boxes of Federal HEs.

I will post additional information when I hear from Baretta.

AdkHunter,

What caliber is your Finnlight? Mine is a 7mm-08 and is less than a month old. Fired 25 rounds through it, all reloads. No problems noted as yet.

I went to the Beretta web site and there is no mention of any recall, in typical corporate fashion.

Sent them an e-mail query about the recall and will let you know when I hear back.

Thanks,

Bob

I posted about this this morning guys under Tikka recalls.
Talked to mule deer and he hadn't heard anything, but i phoned a dealer and yup, bad steel is the culprit.

Just found out myself...purchased a 308 Finnlight in the spring....June I think. Anyway, I am waiting on the return phone call..... Not very good timing with deer season about to open

I don't have a Sako 75 although my brother does. He will be here next week from Michigan for deer hunting.

His is a M75 in .280 wood/blue. I do not believe it is a Finnlight.

Does this recall apply to the Finnlight model only?

TIA

My Finnlight is a 30-06. I don't know what models are involved, but the tape said if your gun was purchased since last Feb., don't shoot it until your SN has been checked. I still havn't heard back from them.

When my dealer called me he stated my gun was on the recall list and I would be contacted, and get a replacement gun.

I just returned from Newfoundland where I used the gun to harvest a moose and a caribou. The deer season is open now here in the Adirondacks, and I can't use this gun untill the problem is resolved. Good thing it's not my only deer rifle.

i just called my dealer. he tells me the recall is on the tikka. described the same problem (metal exploding). he said it's the stainless tikka. made me feel a little better, although i'm still calling sako monday. anyone else hears anything please post and i'll do the same.

The recording says Tikka or Sako stainless rifles......

Over on the "Accutate Reloading" forum thers is a picture of a blow up. It looks like the barrel splits lengthwise.
Good luck!

Spoke to Sheryl at Sako/Tika a few minutes ago. My gun has been recalled. They are sending me pre-paid shipping labels to return my gun to them. As soon as they receive it I will be sent a new one. She stated the turn around time is about 5 days. I should have it in time for the Southern Zone rifle season.

Heard from Sako this afternoon...my 308 Finnlight is not in the recall. I purchased mine in June.....

Here is the link at AR http://www.accuratereloading.com/ubbthre...=21&fpart=1

It seems Sako decided to use a sulphur based lubricant to hammer forge the barrels. It reacts with SS and causes fractures in the steel.

The rifle pictured was only fired 19 times.

Take care.

This is the reply that my cousin received from SAKO. He has a 75SS in .300 Ultra. Just FYI for y'all.

Thanks for your inquiry.

There is a limited recall on a small number of stainless Sako & Tikka T3 rifles manufactured in 2004.

Your rifle is not part of this production lot so you should not worry about the safety of your gun.

i would bet the guy who shot the gun that blew to hell and back wasn't worried about the safety of his gun either.

No kidding, I was glad to hear that the guy wasn't killed. It's pretty bad when a rifle such as the SAKO line has a problem. I don't have one now but I was thinking about getting one in .270 Win in the spring, now it's got me wondering if I should or not.

i have the finnlight in 270 with a zeis 4-14. it's absolutly the best shooting gun i've ever owned. i like everything about it. at 100 yards i basically makes one big hole in the target with three shots.

I just checked out the Beretta website and then went to the Sako rifles page. Not one single word about the recall did I see. Now I've got to admit, there's a class act of a company. They know there's a problem, but don't post it where we might see it. Guess that might scare of potential buyers? Then I read on another site that Sako/Beretta was contacting dealers to covertly get information on buyers of the affected rifles, so they could contact them without having to come out and announce a recall. Nice, real nice. Way to go Sako. You should change the name of the Finnlight to the Pinto rifle.

The real kicker is that my shooting pal and I had a Finnfire .308 this summer. I never liked the Sako scope mounts, because they're much too high for comfort. My pal didn't care much for it either, so we sold it. Might have been providential.

I'm sure glad the fellow is going to be alright, now that's a true miracle, to be thankful for!!!

I sure hope this vexes Sako sales for a while. I'd have felt a lot better if they'd have admitted it up front and more conspicously.

I keep saying it over and over. Anyone can make a mistake, it's how they handle making it right that determines the character of a man, or company.

It's not Sako, it's Beretta.
