I just mounted my .308 sps in a b&c stock and torqed it to 35 in/lb
Is that tight enough??
If I remember correctly, if your Remington 700 has an aluminum floorplate/"bottom metal"-meaning it is factory original, not an aftermarket steel unit, the correct torque is 45 lbs (inch lbs? ft lbs? can't remember the units sorry). If you have an aftermarket steel bottom metal unit for a Remington 700, the torque can be increased to something like 60 lbs.

You don't want to use 60 lbs on the aluminum bottom metal, as it will gall the aluminum.

Also, as you set the torque, I believe you should have the rifle vertical at the "loose screw position", so as you tighten the screws (bolts), the action's recoil lug is set against the stock area for firm recoil control.

That's how I remember it, but my memory is like a steel trap. It's old and rusty.

I probably wouldn't go much over 40 inch lbs.
Remington guy says 35 inch lbs for a factory stock..........Hb
Crow_sniper: I have a Remington 700 PSS in 223 Remington and it is one of THE most accurate factory Rifles I have ever owned (and I have owned a LOT of them!).
It came out of the factory carton shooting amazingly well back in 1990.
Some time after I settled on a handload for it I decided to take the Rifle apart (for the first time) and clean and inspect it.
I used my Snap-On inch/pounds torque wrench to carefully remove the action screws.
I carefully noted the factory settings torque wise as I loosened them.
The front action screw was set at 35 inch/pounds.
The rear action screw was set at 44 inch/pounds.
I carefully reset the torque when I reassembled the Rifle after cleaning and it has remained at this relatively light setting ever since.
It never changes P.O.I. and shoots as well today as it did when new.
Many of my friends set their Remington action screws at a higher inch/pounds setting than I do.
I have set MANY of my Remington 700 (and XR-100) Rifles action screws at these modest settings with good results.
It will be interesting to see what other folks recommend for the Remington action screw torque settings.
Best of luck with the BDL Remington in the B&C stock.

I called Remington with this question and they recommend 35 inch pounds for both action screws so it must not be too light.................Hb
