A friend of mine is looking at buying a rifle for his son and is considering a TC Venture. The articles I've read seem to rate it pretty highly in it's price range. Does anyone out there have any real world experience with it?
Thanks!
Yep. Wouldnt buy another... JUNK IMO.

For 500$ Id go in this order
1) Older Rem 700 ADL or BDL
2) Tikka T3 lite (upgrade to aluminim bolt shroud)
Think I just saw a recall on the bulletin board at the local gun shop. Not sure what the recall is for.
I've got one in 204 Ruger, and it is extreamly accurate. I havent had any problems with the rifle and the gun shop can't keep them on the shelf. Curious. why is your's "junk".....mine isnt?
I have a weathershield Venture in .270. It more than meets its accuracy guarantee.

The recall affects every one they ever made, prior to a very recent date. The recall came a about a week or 2 before deer season, and my son elected not to use it. I put the scope on a spare rifle for him to use. The Venture is back from the recall, and I'll sight it in this weekend. It was only gone about 10 or 11 days. The trigger pull got a little heavier, but it's very crisp.

On recalls, when Ruger had one on my LCP, they gave me a hat and an extra magazine. Nothing like that from TC/S&W yet.

Your one one of the few that has had issues with the T/C Bolt gun. I also have a very small issue with the T/C bolt gun....not available in left hand.

Doc
If they are anything like my Icon, they'll be a great gun!
I'll give it this. It was accurate.

I had extractor problems with mine. After you would fire, it never would extract the case. Several calls to TC, several trips to TC, before it was fixed. Sold it as soon as I got it back

Did a little research and found that they (S&W) are saying that any rifle made before Oct28th, 2011 needs to be looked at.

You guys are a marvelous resource!! This is the kind of thing that makes the Campfire so interesting! Thank you all for your help!
My buddy loves his in .204. It easily shoots half-inch groups with its favored factory ammo, with me shooting. My buddy doesn't handload and this is the first rifle he has ever shot a sub 1" group with. Nothing has been done to the gun. It is just as it came out of the box. He is very pleased with his purchase. He is holding off on the recall thing to learn more about it. He doesn't want to have it come back and not be as good. It's a little "modern" for my taste, but I can't fault the gun.
That's the way mine is, it shoots factory Hornady ammo in 32 vmax, 40 vmax, and 40 Nosler ballistic tips inside a 1/2 inch, plus my 40 grain Nosler ballistic tip reloads into the same spot. I've never had a rifle with this kind of accuracy. No extraction problems, etc. Curious what the recall is about, not sure I want to send mine in.
They're ugly!
Mine wasnt on the list, it was a very early production.

Here's the link, potential sear pin failure, so you should check it out, as your rifle could fire without touching the trigger.

As for recalls, they arent new in the rifle industry....

This comment from above states that even early production rifles would fall under the recall. Please check again and see if your rifle falls in the recall category. Would hate to have something catastrphic happen.
I have two friends that bought ventures this year and all fell under the recall. 5 guns total. At least they are admiting there is a problem and taking care of it.
I did check and even tryed to apply for a fed ex shipping box and it rejected me because of my serial number, I read the list of serial numbers and all are well above mine. I'll give them a call just to be sure.
My son bought a Venture a month ago and the sear dropped when the bolt was closed. Dick's replaced the rifle but I guess we will be sending the rifle back to be checked.
