I'm looking at a Sako M- 591 in .308 made in the early 1990's and was wondering how they compared to the ealier L model Sako's? I get a little confused on the time line on Sako's but I think they made the Sako M-591 (short action) just before the started making the Sako model 75 in the mid 1990's. I have never heard of a bad Sako but the model 591 don't seem to bring as high of a price as the earlier L models.Thank you

Don't know much about the various Sako actions but I did have a nice lefty 591 custom 260 Rem for quite a while it's one of the guns I regret selling. Still have my custom L 691 35 Whelen though. I too remember them being made previous to the model 75 as well. I think you will be happy with it as long as it was treated nicely in the past ofcourse.

Got one in 7mm08. Nice rifle. One of the best feeling rifles I own. Got it several years ago. Thought I had paid too much (<$1000) until I saw a used one in 22-250 go for $1250 on one of the gun auction sites a few weeks later.

The M-591 may have been the Sako models that had the detachable recoil lug.

Both mine mentioned above have the lug like that, on my Whelen it is bedded into the stock.
