Have been seaching the web for a scout scope mount for a remington 700.

B-square used to manufacture them but has ended their production.

The idea is beiing able to mount a scope or red dot sight with a long eye relief for fast target aquisition.

There are the Steyr scout and the Ruger scout rifle that are factory made "scouts"

Would bee nice if anybody knew of a new or used one?

That is too bad... I wrote them several times asking them to offer or include a matching base for the rear receiver ring so one could also quicky switch out to a standard eye relief scope or mount a NECG clamp-on peep sight...they never answered.

This my 700 Youth/Synthetic. Very handy gun that usually travels cross-country with me or is used as a backup hunting rifle...

Small as a Mini30...

I don't have one of the Ruger Scouts yet but do have stainless Frontiers in .308 and .358...here is the .308.

It is easy to switch to a regular eye-relief scope when needed.. This was the .358 with a 1.5-5 Leupold.

Have trid xssights. They make varuios scout mounts but not for the Rem700.

RJM:
Nice pictures. Thats the mount I am looking for!!!!

Looks really nice those scout guns.

B-square has not been very helpful, Looks like they are changing their business and not manufactoring as much mounts as before.

Go back to XS and see what it would take to mount the "Clifton Ring" to your 700.

I have the Burris scout mount. However it required quite a bit of machining to make it work with the 700's barrel contout.
rjm,
Thats the leupy 2.5 on that frontier, correct?
What scope covers are on it? I cant find any to fit mine.
thanks

Yes, I will get you the cover numbers. They are Butler Creek...

Bob
thanks alot!
The mount on the frontier is just the quarter rib off a #1, from what I can tell. should fit on a 700, with minor gunsmithing
Looks to me that its more difficult to fit the clifton mount from xssights than a picatinny rail from EGW (example).

I might need help from a gunsmith on this one.

It is kind of strange that the Scout producing riflescope companies like Leupold and Burris not supplies scout mounts for the most common rifles??

On the other hand, instead of jumping through hoops to get to the scout position, you could:

Go with a scope with generous eye relief (low power, 4.5-5"of eye relief)with the scope mounted as far forward as possible). You would be almost there, and you can still shoot with both eyes open.
I have thought of that but cant find it working good enough for several reasons.

I already have a Steyr Scout and got to like the Scout position a lot.

Its just so nice to do close range fast shooting with the Steyr and an Eotech XPS mounted on it.

I am having a couple of projects trying the Scout position on different guns and might have to just use a gunsmith.

Its kind of strange actually that not more guns comes with an scout mount option. Does not have to interfere with normal scope mounts and will give us hunters some nice opportunities.

How does the Burris mount work? Any close up pics?
