No experience with the 270 wsm...realistic effective range on elk if you elect to take out a shoulder ?
A good price for a ss version with the older
"plastic stock" if one decides its not his cup of tea and wants to move on without taking a bath ..
you can buy a Tacomate A7 for just over a grand from Euro Optics.

If you go 270 WSM it depends what type of bullets you shoot, shorter ones would be a problem carrying down range due to low BC, bigger longer ones would be Ok. Either way you'd probably want to go with a Barnes.

Unless you are a LR nut I would say 450 yds, a 7 or 300 WSM might be a better option for elk, not due to range and drop but energy.
.270 WSM is a solid 600+ yard elk gun if you put the right bullet in the right spot. I'd opt for the .300 WSM if it's primarily for elk. I did, in fact. .300 WSM in an A7.
