I'm sure this has prob been asked before but here goes, I'm looking to buy a remington cdl or lss , pros and cons of each? And also our local pawn has a mark v with a 4-14-40 leupold all in 90 to 95% $1400.00 out the door I'm not sure if its 24" or 26" , thanks for any info

Offer the pawn shop 1200 cash and see what happens. For Me it would be a Mk.5 over the Remingtons the Weatherby is probably a 26 inch barrel. even if it's a 24 inch tube there is only about 50 to 60 FPS difference between the two.

CDL will have a fluted barrel, LSS won't (both will have 26" tubes)

I'm not a big fan of the Mk V action until you get into the stuff based off of the .378... .30-378, .338-378 and the like. I would be more interested in the Remington, myself. In fact, my .257 is an SS SPS model in a McSwirley.

I know it is not a rem but the vanguard series are shooters and cheaper than either rem or mk. I found a series 1 vanguard at cabelas on sale for $325. Couldn't pass it up. Threw a Burris I had on it and the damn thing shoots lights out, just under an inch at 100 yards with the $35 factory ammo and better than that with the 100grain factory tsx. For the money in that caliber they are hard to beat.

I actually like the Vanguards a lot better than the Mk V for normal rifles... the Mk V is just too big for something like a .257 or 7mm Weatherby.

I just recently picked up a Vanguard because I couldn't pass it up for the price. Looking forward to getting to know it better.

FWIW, I've owned 2 different 257 Roys in Remington platforms and both shot bug holes with factory ammo and no tinkering.

I have the CDL/FSS 700. It is a bit on the heavy side but a McMillan Edge took care of that. $1400 seems high unless the scope is a macdaddy Leupold scope. It is probably just a VX-1 though. I have less than 1400 in mine and it is wearing a EDGE.

Get the Vanguard S2 or The Remington 700, then go buy a great scope with whats left. You can get a used leupold in the classifieds and have money left over for accessories.

Thanks guys I'm not to sold on the marks and the leupold is a older vx111 but honestly I'm leaning toward one of the Remington's. Question , is the Remington's freebored like the weatherbys?

I have no idea why Remington stopped producing the 257 Roy in the SPS's. It was a great alternative for a Stainless 257 Roy that you could slap in a quality stock and end up with a great package without breaking the bank. They shot real well too.

The Rem will be freebored just like any other factory 257Wby.

I have the LSS 257Wby. Good gun, just heavy.

The freebore myth just won't die, will it? I've owned 3 different Weatherbys in Weatherby magnum calibers. All would shoot way under MOA with anything I put through them. I'd go with the Vanguard in .257 - they're tack drivers.
