a friend of mine has this rifle and is wanting to sale,,I am having a hard time getting any kind of a starting place on how to price it.

1962 Styer Daimler Puch Mannlicher Shoenauer Model MC Kal 243
original quick detach scope mounts and Nickel Warburg Supra 4-10 German #4 FFP scope,,

rifle is original and has some faded blueing and a couple handeling marks but is in very good shape,

I shot a couple three shot groups with Fed 100 gr factory ammo under 3/4 inch at 100 yards yesterday..

the set trigger feels about like my CZ 527 that is 6 ounces,,the whole deal when you handle it just oozes old world craftsmanship..

any info would be helpful

I feel a good starting point if negotiating a price is $1500. Deals can be found for less, but usually show wear and tear. This one looks pretty good, and the mounts/scope do help add value and keeps the rifle period correct. Dang near impossible to find the mounts by themselves, and some sets hold a high value for resale.

BB of Gun Values would have the rifle alone, at 98% around $1725. 95% is $1300. Collectors might fork over $2000 or more for a clean .243 like this one.

Added pad. looks like a '56 model. What's it say on top of the receiver? Concave cheek rest? Double trigger is usually a plus. Don't know value of scope, but some folks do not like the mounts because it limits what scope you can replace. I would think $1100 - $1200 in that condition.

One of the guys here has one in 358 WIN. Very nice rifles.

Pad was an option from Stoeger, or a Griffin and Howe upgrade. Could be original to gun as purchased new.

I have watched these rifles and the 1/2 stock models for awhile on different auction/classified sites and would say that 1500 is a good starting price (as suggested above), based on BB and shape. But the seller may need to be very patient at that price as it will have lots of company from other MS rifles. If the owner wants to move it quickly, then a price of $1000 - $1200 should generate real interest.

Its really about how bad they want to move it.

Well I would think some were in the 1500 to 1700 range would be about as good a number as any. How bad to you want it? You want to put a new scope on it, all is not lost, New England Custom Gun fits claw mounts to them. I know I had a pre war 6.5 x 54 MS. it was a 600 dollar job back in 1997 when I had it done. So take it for what its worth.

I don't think that rifle will fetch that much. It is not collector condition or a rare chambering, hence a very classy shooter. Once again, that mount might be a negative to a lot of folks. Not many want to put an additional 6 bills into a scope mount job, plus the scope cost. The pad is not original, and likely not a G&H option. That (G&H pad) would have to be proven for it not to deduct value. The 1956 model is an awesome design for scope use, but many consider it to be the least attractive model because of the large cheek rest. Looks like a fair amount of blue is worn from carry on the floorplate. If the scope is of decent quality and the rig can be kept as is, $1300 is a fair price to the seller and OK for the buyer. Anyway, that's the max I would pay if I really wanted a 1956 model MS in .243

Is the cheek rest concave (dished out some)? If not, then I can see it being an MC model. My value stays the same though. Desirability may be higher than the '56.

His additional info about the recoil pad reflects it as being non-original and aftermarket. Not that big of a deduction. The white spacer is present, so it is not hard to put an original butt plate on there and index the screws.

It is a '56 MC. They were still being made in 1962.

It is missing the front sight hood. Condition of chamber, throat and bore is to be considered as well as the condition of the crown. That is pretty important. Sounds OK, especially since it performed well at the range.

I still think $1500 is a good starting point, especially if you don't want to lowball a good friend.

There is/was a 7x57mm in my area, last I looked it was $1700

Any metric cartridge will bring a premium.
