I have inherited a Sako FINNBEAR in .270 and can find little information on this rifle on the net. Can anyone tell me about it....I would like to know when it came out, and a general evaluation of it. It is topped with a Leupold M8 6X that is metallic purple in color..I have never seen a Leopold with this finish. Can anyone tell me about this scope? Thanks.

"Bolt Action Rifles" 4th Edition will tell you a lot about the Sako. You probably have an L61R action. It is the long action as Sako made a short, medium and long action depending on cartridge. I have a medium action in 308. and I had a short action in 222Rem and a long action in 7mm Mag. These are extremely well made firearms and depending on whether it is a Standard or Deluxe, a Garcia import or not, and condition may sell for 500+ to 1200+. There are many that know more thgan I do but this will give you a start. The "Blue Book of Gun Values" will give you a ballpark figure on value. Remember, it is all about condition
That's a deluxe,my guess Garcia import.('72 on)

Texagun,

Unfortunately, I've seen several Leupold scopes in that color. It is the oxidation of the anodizing that creates that color. It doesn't occur frequently but it does happen.

The stock is superb!
Regards.

The serial number is 30,XXX, which, according to what I have been able to find out, was imported in 1967-68 prior to the Garcia imports. This is a closeup of the scope...I wonder why it turned this color. It looks and works great.
