Hi Guys,

I have heard a lot of conflicting info regarding Salt Bath Nitride or Melonite. I wanted to Melonite my Defiance Rebel action and my Krieger barrel. Has any one out there Melonited their barrels or actions? Has it caused any stress to either or any change in accuracy? I heard that if I do Melonite the barrel I should break in the barrel first. Any input on the pros and cons would be great. Any pics of your Melonited actions and barrel would be great.

Thanks
Butch Lambert is an authority on this, do a search as there were two long threads previously.

I want to give it a try but just a few negative reports are keeping me from doing it on a good barrel. It sounds like if the barrel and action were truly stressed relieved then no negative affects, but if there is any latent stress there is enough heat involved in the process to bring them out.
I would have no reservations meloniting the action, but there have been too many reports of the tratment negatively affecting accuracy when performed on barrels to make me want to risk it for one of my barrels.

I don't have a treated action, but the Stiller actions I have had (still have 1) have a treated bolt. While initially rough, once burnished in the bolt is VERY smooth
