just picked up a used model 700 stainless/synthetic (not a SPS) in 300 RUM and gonna put a Leupold VX 3 4.5-14 x40mm gonna try some 180 grain accubonds and was curious how you have your 300 RUM setup and what you shoot out of it?? Also what game have you used it on?
I have an xcr ii 300 rum with a Nikon monarch 4-16x50 and shoot the factory loads 180 grain power level 3 love it, I will buy some brass and nosler accubonds when it becomes available, but for now what I shoot I like thus far...
Mine shot 200 accubonds extremely well
200 Nosler Partition in my Remington KS Alaskan Custom Shop 300 RUM
Very accurate with Retumbo. LOTS of Retumbo. 1/2" 5-shot groups @ 100 yds.
I've got some 180 Nosler Accubonds, but haven't had a chance to reload any yet. I had 1 box of Factory Nosler Custom Ammo loaded with the 165 grain Accubonds. They shot a 1/2" 3 shot group @ 100 yards.
I've got a Leupold VariX-III 3.5 X 10 on mine. Sure wish I had gone with the 4.5X14 x 40mm like your using.
I'm shooting Barnes 200gr LRX in mine with RL25 powder. Leupold 3.5-10x40 scope.
Mine wears a 3.5-10x50 VXIII and shoots 180gr X bullets with RL25.
200 Grain Accubonds here too and Retumbo, more than 90 grains of retumbo. I put a 4-16 Vortex Viper PST on mine. I used RL 25 with 180 grain hornady interbonds before switching to the accubonds.
Sako 75 with a Leupold 4.5-14x40mm. I started with 96.0 RL25 and 180 grain partition and then later used the same load with 180 grain Accubond.
I have killed whitetails, mule deer, antelope, coyotes, jack rabbits, prairie dogs and anything else that was in season.
Dink
I use the 200 g accubond for heavier game, but really like the 240 g matchking for antelope way out there in the wyoming wind.
Sendero with 200gr Accubond and Retumbo.
A little big for deer but very accurate and they don"t go far.
seems like the 300 RUM & Accubonds is a great combination...
seems like the 300 RUM & Accubonds is a great combination...
+ Retumbo
might have to try some 200 grain accubonds
Had two.. Both shot the 200 grain Accubond very fast with RE 25, but I built them with 28.5 in. barrels.. Only killed coyotes, antelope, and deer with mine.. Sold both to one of my former students.. He loves 'em.. Bought a barrel to build another, but never completed the project.. Probably won't now..
He also developed a coyote load with RE 25 that would shoot a 150 grain BTBT at about 3800 fps..
I have had great results from 180 gr Swift Scirocco II's.
VX6 2-12 in Leupold QD, 180 tsx and lots of Retumbo.
2 mule deer bucks, 8 bull elk, 6 WT bucks, a few turkeys and coyotes and 1 bobcat.
My friend uses the Swift Scirocco II's with great results....
anyone use the Remington power level I or II ???
If ur only going to shoot power level 1, you are only shooting 30-06 power loads.
I've used the 200 grain Accubond in mine for about 11 years now. A stiff charge of RL-25 gives right at 3200 fps. I did try out the 180 grain E-Tip one year, and the 210 grain ALR this past season. I'm going back to the 200 grain Acubond as it has been a consistent performer on everything from bears to antelope, and a pile of bulls. Factory ammo has caught up a bit since the first stuff in 99, but handloading is the way to go with a RUM. Never saw any sense in that Power Level ammo. mtmuley
Picked up some 180 grain Nosler accubonds gonna see what kind of groups I get
