Will the advertised 9 1/4" twist rate in Remington Model 700's stabilize the Hornady 105 Grain A-Max bullet? If so, would this bullet be OK for Mule Deer and Antelope? On Midway website it says this bullet is not suitable for hunting. I know that Boxer uses them but I don't know about the distances he is shooting. Any experience with these bullets on game that you would care to share? I've got some 95 Grain Nosler BT/CT's and some Sierra 100 Grain BT's but I guess I'm wondering if the added BC is worth it if the terminal performance suffers. I'll be trying what I have in stock to see how they shoot when this extreme cold backs off some. Thanks.
Yes, but if you are shooting under 400 yds, If me, a 95 NBT would be my first pick hands down, reports tell of kills over 500+ fwiw. An Amax will blow on close shots esp on bone, so shot placement very sensitive at high vel.

Amax has shot well - under MOA in an XCR M7 20", and 24" 700, but not as tight as the 95s...
I couldn't agree more with your opinion of the 95gr bst.I have taken tons of game with it in the woods and out to 450 yds. I have also personally witnessed some first hit kills much further out than that. It's just a helluva bullet and has imo a perfect balance of penetration and expansion.
I've shot a bamillion .243" 95NBT's.

Pass the 105's and get outta the [bleep] way.
How many 'Max's have you actually "blown" on bone?

Heres a 105 AMAX from a 50 yard neck/spine shot, no cup core separation, retained 47% of its weight and put the bucks face in the dirt where it stood. Feel free to add this to your list of "reports".
My buddy can't get them to stabilize in his factory 700.

They work fine on deer, as well as the Scenar and VLD. 105s hit hard.

No way. I've smoked several nice bucks at close range with the 105 amax out of a 243ai.

I've said it before and here it is again.
173 yards Sucks 243ai 105 a-max. Dead elk.
This rifle is a flat out killer........

My Kimber won't stabilize the Amax's.
I don't have any experience with the a - max but the 95 gr. NBT is deadly and accurate too.
All from this year:

Between 83 and 419 yards. Critters died and blood trails abounded. Fear not.

It stabilizes just fine in my rifle.
Are the 105's back in production? I heard Hornady was temporarily halting production. I tried a few and they shot well, but I've moved on to 115's since my barrel is twisted to handle them.

Travis, where did you hit the Elk and did it pass through?
What rifles handle the 105s well?

High shoulder and no.
It stopped in the bottom of the spine.
The animal never took another step.

I call BS, no way that elk was killed with a 243.

Pluck yew.....

Vinny
Is that a pet?

Did you teach him to play dead like that?

I've read right here that a 243 is barely big enough for deer.

That's because your Kimber is 1:10.

Who the hell is Travis?

I am glad I stocked up on 105's, wished I had done the same with 75's.

Yea it just isn't worth the cost of re barrel to me. The rifle is extremely accurate as is and I'm happy with the 95 gr bst.
