Barring the arguments about accuracy, what's your pleasure? I'm thinking Howa 1500 in 6.5 Swede or Tikka T3 Hunter in .260. For feral pig, of course.
Where are you getting the T3 in .260?
Those Howas are just soooo bleeming heavy!
I have both...but the Tikka for me is the hands down winner. My vanguards/howa are very accurate, but also very heavy....triggers need work to be nice. The Tikka is lite, accurate and have great triggers.....winner,winner
Yeaha T3 in a Swede would be skookum.

You know Winchester made a Featherweight in 6.5x55 from the 1990's till 2006.
He didn't ask about winchesters.sheesh.
Yeah and this is the Campfire....
Yeah but.how dare you attempt to derail a thread!
I would NEVER do anything like that personally...

Get thee behind me....
Sorry, next time I'll get the "Official thread derailer's" permission.
Ingwe can I derail this thread.

Weight really isn't an issue. All hunting is from a stand. So what do you think?
I'd buy a Howa or Vanguard over any other currently manufactured rifle.
Travis
Where can a person get a .260 t3 in the USA?
Yeaha T3 in a Swede would be skookum.
It's .260 I'm thinking about.
I can't think of any 2 rifles more different. If you're a traditional type of guy you'll like the Howa. If you like more modern stuff the Tikka. Having owned both I found the Tikka's to be more accurate by a hair and my choice.
Weight is a factor to me even when hunting from a tree stand that I could ride an ATV right up to. Both of those calibers call for a trimmer lighter gun. Even though they are well made guns, I'd not buy the Howa or Vanguard again unless in a really hard kicker where the weight would help with recoil.
Yeaha T3 in a Swede would be skookum.
Yept...sure like my T3 Swede SS/Lam........
Loves 140 Nozler AB's.......
Desert Ram @ 190 yds....140 NAB........

Hell if I know.

I'd put a Montana on that list, but I often lean in the same direction...
Those Howas are just soooo bleeming heavy!
That's what happens when parts are not made of plastic, and when an actual recoil lug seems like a good thing to have... but a change to even a decent stock can work wonders.
I'd put a Montana on that list, but I often lean in the same direction...
Yeah. A NULA too for that matter. But they cut into beer funds.

You must mean a new NULA, or else you drink a lot of beer...or both...

Kimber or Forbes. The rest all need new stocks or a bunch of other crap, which gets them up to the cost of a Kimber or Forbes.
I would think a Finnlight belongs on the list.
As long as this thing is completely derailed, how about a .260 build? Sucks action,Hart barrel, Ti stock.something like that?

Fixed it.
OK! I LIKE your input!!!
I think I'm gonna pass on both and save pennies for another 7x57: stainless, synthetic, etc. I need a rough weather pig rifle. Besides, everybody needs four 7x57s.
Loco: Buds.
Seriously though, I always wonder why folks talk about certain rifles as being out of their price range (not picking on Travis, just in general), yet these same folks often have multiple piles of cheaper rifles.
Sell a bunch of ordinary stuff and buy or build a few that fit and balance well.

I suggest you spend less time in church. It's killing your judgement.

Rev,
look at the Howa Ultralight barrelled actions and slip that into a McEdge - and you then have a lightweight gun. Simple as that.
I don't know if they make the swede or the 260 in the lightweight barrelled action but my 7-08 sits in a mcswirley with burris full field II on top for a weight of 3.39 kgs (?? what that is in pounds!!!)
Gus
Those Howas are just soooo bleeming heavy!
This. These are the two rifles I compared when I was shopping for a .243. The Howa was just too dang heavy.
Expat
The Howa's "suffer" (if I can use that word ??) from the hogue stocks that are normally fitted. The Hogue stock is a mighty fine unit but can be heavy - especially if you go for the ones with the full length bedding block.
The McEdge is a fantastic stock for the standard HOWA and I have one fitted to a stainless spotter in 30-06 . It too would be great on the ultralight HOWA barrelled action too....
Gus
The T3 Lite gets my vote!!! Scotty O. Specially in a 6.5Sweed or 7x57

That's probably true, but someone has to keep the fire stoked under that old caliber. Besides, it'll be there for someone who really wants it - notice I didn't say "needs it"; just wants it.
Neither, Spin together a Remington how you want it..there is nothing about the howa or tikka that aint a concession.alltho the howa is an excellent platform, its still a modular deal imo,so you may as well start with the remmy .
Throte it,stock it,trigger it,twist it from the git go and cut to the chase.
I might add, that you'll probly do it wrong many times before you get what you want..In that regard you might want to pay attention to guys like Big Stick (boxer)..you might think the guy is an azzhole but he aint out to lead guys astray.

An MRC Model 1999 SS with a Zeiss SS scope, dang that'll be purty.

Just finished tidying up the shop here @ 'Flave Precision.
We're still accepting orders by the way.

Why you throwing away those targets?

You know, if I could find a nice drop in for my Zastava - because I am absolutely not a gunsmith - I might save myself about $1300.
Reverend,
Stop playing around with all that euro-trash. There's a reason everybody hopes we all die. And that reason is because we're the best.
Travis
Does gruff know you're throwing his targets away?
Even my wife is wondering wtf you're doing.

You probably won't like this but I'm hankering for another MRC, only in stainless with B&C stock. Made in your back yard?

You know I don't shoot a Tikka so I really don't care either way. Many hate the plastic this and that, but you never hear of any sort of catastrophe happening with Tikkas because of all the plastic. All you see is picture after picture of tight groups, and guys gushing over their Tikka. And in the end, isn't that the point of a gun?

That peasant has to dumpster dive to find anything worth using.
Not 'flave. I only use the finest of the finest of the finest.
Travis

No experience with one of those actions, sir.
I know Adair badmouths them so that can only help their business.
Travis

Here is my basharound, all weather pig (and deer and goat and feral cattle) rifle. This one's in 30-06...
Reverend,
Stop playing around with all that euro-trash.
Wait a minute...weren't you trying to get me to pick up the Tikka?
Bob:
Is that a Redfield Revolution mounted in Warne rings? Looks like it.
Mike
Got a question for you Rev,why don't you get a MRC SS in .260?

I might want to stabilize something that looks like a javelin.
And your shots are how far?
And your shots are how far?
Max?
At the ranges I generally shoot, I can just about spit on the game so I might as well stick with the old Mauser.

I don't shoot groups, and I have no use for plastic rifles...plastic is for handguns, as everyone knows.
All I care about is that it goes bang every time without drama...I'm easy...

Rev,that close why not a .338 Federal?
I know,I know,the 7mm Mauser has the "cool" factor.

Actually I've never thought about it since I don't know much about it. But I expect the average ranges are right at 60 yards, with some considerably closer, a few just a tad more. There are right of ways on the lease that would allow for shots way out there, but that's mostly deer and I don't bother with deer.
So yeah, between the cool factor and 99% of my shots inside of 100 yards, the old .275 does the trick.
Bob:

Mike
Yep RR 3-9x40 in Warne Maxima bases and rings. Has been a rock solid combo, and one of the few base/ring combos available in stainless finish too.
Couldn't bring myself to put a silver scope on it though. Yucky.

Rev,the .338 Federal is a .308 Winchester case necked up to .338. The heaviest bullet in factory form is a 210 gr Nosler Partition. Think of it as a .338-06 but shorter. Maybe a MRC in .338 Fed.
But that's up to you.
Yes, Elk said something about putting a matte silver on a stainless MRC. I don't think I can do that either.
I like your setup.
The .338 is something to chew on.
I'll see the 338 Fed and raise you.
How about the Tikka in 8x57? At hog-huntin' ranges a handloaded 8mm Mauser would be just about top of the pops IMO.
Or of course, another Zasty in 8mm. Why not ring the importer and see if he'll get you a stainless one? Beretta Australia told me they would get me whatever calibre I wanted in the stainless Zastava as long as I was prepared to wait.
I very nearly went that way myself but there were 30-06 versions in stock and I wanted the rifle.
Rev,the .338 Fed is about 150 fps or so slower than the .338-06.
Here is my Rem M 700 SPS SS .257 Wby with a Zeiss silver 3-9x scope. I like it!
Realize these are not the best pics,it does give you an idea of what I mean.
Elk, that's actually a nice looking setup.
