Anyone have one of these? Looked @ one yesterday, seems to OK for the price ($339). My concerns: Hows the balance,accuracy,muzzle blast, ect. Im thinking on getting one, any help would be appreciated

my wife has a 77 compact, with a 16 1/2 " barrel. Accuracy is fine,it is a little loud.

I have one in 308 but have not sighted it in yet. I shot it once just to test the recoil because it is so light, recoil is surprisingly light in my opinion. Anxious to shoot it more since everything I have read says they are very accurate. Got some 150 gr accupoints to try in it. Maybe this weekend will be warm enough to shoot some.

I've got one in .243. It balances much better than Model Sevens do and shoots cheap Winchester Power Points into .75 moa. I didn't notice the muzzle blast, the trigger pull is acceptable and the gun feels heavy for it's size. I've fired exactly 8 shots from mine...three to sight it in, three to shoot a group and two that killed two boar hogs. So far, I couldn't be happier with it.

Have a 223. The 18" barrel is quiet compared to my 16" AR's. It is a bit unsteady offhand, but will work for what I bought it for. I was beginning to think I should have gone with the full size rifle, but I'm getting used to it. The stock is a little short, but I knew that going in and will live with it. Not sure I'd want one that short on a heavier kicker.

Accuracy is running right at 1 MOA. I've shot it out to 300 yards so far, 3 shots in 3". Best group was just over 1" @200 yards.

My factory magazine would not feed the last round. Did not matter if I had 1 round in it or 5. All fed perfectly but the last. That magazine is on its way back to Ruger. I expect a working replacement any day now.

I like this gun so much I bought a full size in 308. Have not had a chance to shoot it yet.

On the subject of RAR's, Gunbroker has some for $319 shipped right now. That's hard to beat.

A friend has one in 708, very accurate, handy and not overly loud. I could certainly own one and be happy.

...........I've owned a Ruger Frontier compact (16.5" barrel) since `07. Mine has been bedded and floated and is very accurate.

Imo, the new Ruger American compacts with their 18" tubes and with a little more OAL by 1.25" vs the Frontiers and the Ruger compacts, should handle just as well and be just as handy as the earlier Frontiers and current Ruger compacts. Based on my own compact experiences, you will like the shorter rifle dimensions when in the field.

If you`re looking for a true compact, the Ruger American looks like a pretty good rifle for the price.

Any concerns for additional noise or blast is a matter of individual tolerance levels.

I shouldered a compact and couldn't get over the short LOP. I'm 6'0" and very handsome.

I just got my full sized RAR in 7-08. It fits me better.

...........At 6'3" 227 lbs, I have found that when using a slip on recoil pad, which is most of the time, any shorter LOP issues from the Ruger compacts are easily solved. I can go from a 12.5" LOP on my Ruger compact to a 13 5/8" LOP in just a few seconds......Problem solved.

Stopped at Scheels on the way up north yesterday and they had one compact in 243. Wife was in a good mood so I thought I could sweet talk her into this for my 8 1/2 year son. I picked it off the shelf and the barrel was so tight against the stock on one side and a huge gap on the other. Put that back. Would like to find him the stainless anyway.

Well I'm 5'8" and hung like a bull.

I bought one in 223 for my wife , we like the rifle but it won't feed the last round from the mag. I thought it was the mag and bought 2 new ones that didn't solve the problem. If I push down on the follower from inside the mag drops about 1/4" while latched in place, I wish I had done that from the start. The forward lip that engages the mag is just a shelf on the stock. I will be sending it back and test Ruger's customer service. I don't know how it could be repaired short of replacing the stock which I will subtly mark prior to shipping. I am not too upset because for the price I can't expect a GAP and the rifle shoots and handles well. I will update when I get the rifle back from Ruger.
