I took a newly purchased Tikka T3 Lite .308Win. to the range today with a standard hand load of 45 gr. Varget and a 168gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip. Fed 210's were used as well as brand new Nosler brass. The BT's touch the rifling at 2.955" and the overall maximum magazine length is 2.835". The COAL was set at 2.800" and they were checked for smooth feeding. I only needed one sighter so shooting for groups commenced quickly.
The first 5 shot group went exactly one inch. I fooled around with a pre '64 and a #1B in 22 Hornet (posted in "Single Shots") to keep things from heating up.
The next 5 shot group went into 5/8". Both targets are shown below.
The chrony averaged 2715fps which was acceptable for a 22" barrel. The diameter at the muzzle is .625".
Today I had a boring Weaver K6 scope and the entire package weighed in at 7#'s even.
For those keeping score, the new Nosler brass headspaced at 3.625" and after firing they measured 3.630".

I know Tikka's get beat up here for their "cheap" components but you just can't ignore consistent results. Literally from box to range to fantastic results. Load development is done other than for 150 BT's and Acc's. I'm still learning photo options with the iMac so bear with me.

BW, we knew what was going to happen. From what I've seen, the Tikka's get more praise for their accuracy than they do criticism of their plastic parts. We all know they shoot damn good!!! That's mighty impressive shooting though!!!!!

The only part that really sucks is the bolt shroud. The stock isn't bad as far as tupperware goes. If McMillan would get the inlet a little tighter it wouldn't be a bad thing.

My next rifle is still going to be a M700 though...

I heard they are having a hell of a sale on the Remington 700's right now: Buy one and get the other one with half a trigger....

I don't trust any M700 trigger that I haven't goofed with first or any M700 trigger that Remington has messed with twice.

I laughed at these guns when they first came out, then it went to a less audible chuckle.

Now I'm not laughing, but don't blame me..

At first glance, it deserved a laugh. The luggette, the plastic earned some ridicule.

But they sure seem to shoot well.

All I can figure is there are some good engineers at that place.

They made an affordable gun that can shoot. They cut corners, the secret is they cut the right ones without affecting performance.

I guess I'll have to go back to making fun of Remington.

They're still ugly, but that's never bothered me as evidenced by the wimmen I've dated.

Well they don't fit a certain mindset that some American shooters have. We all know the drill, plastic parts, not CRF, etc... But when you keep proving that push feeds, external mags, one size actions, a unique recoil lug design work so many times,
you can't ignore that.
Maybe we should start thinking of them as: a Sako variant on sale.

The worst part about my Tikka is when I have a bad day at the range, I have nobody to blame but myself.

Could be you're simply not holding it right.

Atsa fact. Mine has not shown me a poor day at the range yet. Still haven't shot a group over an inch, and averaging about 5/8". Love it!
