I am one happy camper. Picked up a Remington 700 Classic in .250 Savage Saturday at the gunshow. Missed out on one years ago and kind of forgot about it. Walking through the last row of the gunshow Saturday and saw an elderly gentleman carrying a rifle around. I stopped him and asked what caliber his Classic was and he said .250 Savage. Gun is in excellent condition and after some dickering we settled on $600 and he kept his scope and left the Redfield bases. Can't wait to take this out to the range.

TXDave;
Good evening to you sir, I hope this finds you doing well this still Sunday evening.

Many years ago now a long passed away shooting buddy purchased a then newly released Remington 700 in .250 and my goodness did that rifle shoot.

I still recall the day I was testing a now forgotten load for him and managed to put the first four bullets of five into one very tiny hole. Of course he made a comment, I looked at the spotting scope to verify how good it all looked and subsequently choked under pressure - though the group was still one of the best I've ever shot to date.

When it came up for sale I couldn't swing the needed cash and it's one that I always think of when folks talk about how accurate some 700's can be. grin

Good luck with your new rifle sir, I hope it shoots as good as my friend's did. All the best to you in the upcoming week.

Great to hear about you good fortune. Was out with my 1950's era grey rat mdl 99 this afternoon myself. Fun cartridge to load for. Best of luck.

That's one of the Classics I regret not getting (along with the .300 H&H and .222...

To all who are wishing for a .250 Classic, I know where one in 95-98% can be had. Pix available.

i've got one too. nice rifle. also interesting to compare the finish with the classic that came out in .300 savage sme years later. the .250 has a much deeper, glossier blue finish, and you can tell they took a little more time finishing the stock.
Good deal. Mild mannered cartridge for certain.

I'm getting a 250 done in 7oo faux TI style with PN 8" twist MR contour. Have a factory walnut MR stock that will be cut short so the g-kids can shoot it too.
I have the .300 Savage Classic and would love to find a .250 to go with it. Luckily I have a couple other .250's to play with until I can find the right deal on a Classic.

It's great when someone mentions one of the older rounds and some awesome looking gun photos start appearing?

Nice find and a good deal. Buddy had one of those several years ago and it was a nice rifle. We bought a pair of the classics in a package deal from a guy one the .250 and the other the 257 Roberts. Buddy took the 250 and I ended up with the 257. IIRC it shot pretty well. I had a 77RSI in 250 as well and it was fine though not as good as my friends Remington.

Just recently I ran across a savage 110 in .250 and pimped another friend that was looking for a light recoiling rifle due to rotator cuff issues into buying it. It was a interesting older 110 with nice walnut and while he was skeptical ( He liked big bullets) , he bought it and now he thinks it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. The friend with the classic had some 87gr ammo he had loaded up left over and it shot nickel sized groups out of the savage. We all went on a deer hunt and a nice doe showed herself and despite being skeptical my friend shot her at about 150 yds. with his new rifle and she went down like a rug had been pulled out from under her. He is now a convert. Enjoy your new rifle.

what a find! I have a Roberts but would love a .250 savage as well! I saw one of those classics once, a guy had a little plastic plant tag 1" wide by 5 inches long with 3 close holes in it shot at 100.

Love my .250-3000 Classic 700, especially after the stock was given the Karnis treatment!!

I've got its semi-twin in hawkeye (matte stainless) trim, need to throw up a pic after work.
I've been wanting a 36 (cocking piece) Mex Mauser for quite a while, they aren't all that easy to find. Stopped by the local pawnstar day before yesterday, and there it was. A not all that bad sporter in 250 Savage. Looking forward to picking it up and a trip to the range for some test firing.

Amen to that but, the cancer is creeping to other states as well.
Indeed it is.

Is anyone currently manufacturing rifles in .250-3000?

Salvage makes an american classic and weather warrior in .250 salvage, and cooper offers the 54 in .250 salvage.

Ruger makes random runs of a 77 RSI in .250 salvage, I picked one up new a couple months ago from Bud's.

Its much worse here. No autos, not even auto shotguns. No handguns.

Apply for a "permit to acquire" - for which you pay thirty bucks - and wait A MONTH while they determine if they are going to issue it! THEN you can pick up your rifle.

Getting jealous Guys !! I've got to get around to building a 250 Savage on a donor Remmy Model 7 I have laying around...... smile
Good find on your Remington 250 Savage. I'd had a 250 Savage rifle bolt rifle on my to buy list for a number of years. Seldom found one and what few I did were out of my price range. Finally gave up the search and had a Swede 96 action barreled in 250Savage. I really do enjoy shooting this rifle.

A Model Seven CDL would make a nice 250.

I don't have very many pictures of it but I do have a few.

One of my daughter holding it:

Here are the other two pictures that I have:

[Linked Image]

Kevin Weaver built the rifle and from what I know of the build it is a Pac Nor barrel 1:10 twist High Tech Stock 12.5" LOP. Kevin extended the magazine to the rear and moved the bolt stop to allow the longer bolt travel. I can't run any bullets heavier than 100 grain there just isn't room (unless I use RN) even with the extended magazine. Then there is the fact I can't remove a loaded round from the chamber easily, I have to pull the bolt to get it out. Spent cartridges have no problems ejecting though.

I think these few problems with the rifle stopped Kevin from making anymore. However it has been a fun little rifle to play with, and my daughter uses it from the blind on deer hunts in OK. I probably wouldn't let her hunt with it outside of a controlled situation like the blind.
I picked off a 250 in a Classic in winter with a boat load of ammo to boot. There were two on Armslist the other day, one 700 one 110. 250-3000 is usually hidden under 257 Bob. My wife has a 250 on a Mohawk, sweet but WAAAY too short for normal non-midget folks. I thought about restocking it but the alimony would make it prohibitive so I scarfed up the 700 C

Thanks Taylorce1. I was going to ask how they fitted the 250 Sav into that action. I looked into it as a project but got waved off for some of the reasons you mention.

Yours'n sounds pretty unique as it is and good to see it was able to be done.

As it is I think I might get one made up in 6.5 Grendel instead. Yours look great though.

DMc. Nice looking rifle. Like your bike too I had a trail 90 probably 40 years ago and enjoyed it a lot. I noted yours is a 110 and didn't realize they ever made anything but the 90. A little more juice would not have been a bad thing if they made a 175 or 250 I'd get one today. Thanks for a memory trip.
Posted By: DMc Re: Remington 700 .250 Savage - 06/03/14
Bangeye, I believe 79 was the last year for 90's. Mine's an 82. 1771 original miles and it'll do 50mph with an adult on board. Coolest thing about these bikes is the lower transfer case you can switch to for hill climbing. Interestingly, these can still be purchased (new) in New Zealand, as they have a postal contract with Honda. (So parts are still available from Honda.)

After market spring-loaded GPS handlebar mounts do double-duty holding a rifle securely.
