Just kidding....

I have both. The 260 kills better.

I have neither and I haven't shot either, but I have extensively reviewed the ballistics charts - the 25-06 has a flatter trajectory at "reasonable deer ranges".

My 260s with 22 inch barrels routinely shoot 100 grain bullets at 3350 fps, with 43.5 grains of powder...the 24 and 26 inch barreled ones move them even faster....

The 260 has nothing to apologize about to the 25/06 at all....

Exception given to is shorter stature, and we all know short things are inferior to long & tall........LOL!!!

Not if you use the Hornady 120 Hollow Point in the 25-06 ahead of 50/H4350 an amazing killer.... try it you'll like it.
Posted By: JPro Re: .260 vs 25-06 - 07/22/14
If the goal is to fling moderate-BC bullets at high speeds with minimum recoil, the 25-06 is the winner. 100gr E-Tips or SSIIs with RL17 make a flat-shooting combo with their .400-ish BCs. For nearly anything else, the 260 makes better sense.

This one's getting warm. Higher BC projectiles in a more efficient cartridge. If hunting anything larger than whitetails, the 260 is the clear choice. I'd pick the 260 for easier hits and better penetration at longer range.Up and down is easy, left and right is where the difficulty lies.
Posted By: Hammerdown Re: .260 vs 25-06 - 07/22/14

Yeah, I would go with 260 over a 25-06.

Posted By: Farmboy1 Re: .260 vs 25-06 - 07/22/14
I have harvested over 25 Whitetails over the years with
the 25-06. A very deadly and accurate caliber in capable hands.

I have not tried a .260 and never will, no need.
Posted By: 264wm Re: .260 vs 25-06 - 07/22/14
This is silly just get a 264WM 100gr hp at 3800fps and have some fun. Or 160gr PPSN at 3100fps. Chuckle Chuckle
Posted By: wilkeshunter Re: .260 vs 25-06 - 07/23/14
Screw both and use a .30-06.

What is that cartridge on the left.........6.5WSM or maybe Dakota?

.260 Rem on left, right looks like a 6x45??
Posted By: DropTyne Re: .260 vs 25-06 - 07/23/14
The 25-06 is the little brother of the 270, which makes it a little gay

Bingo....

108 Scenars in the 260, 90 Scenars in the 6x45. The beauty of the Baby 6, aside from thwarting .23 caliber minimum regs, is it flys like M118 (175 SMK @2,600) with 1/2 the powder, no recoil, and twice the fun...

According to this logic, does that make the .270's big brothers, the .280 and .30/06 a lot gay?

What does logic have to do with cartridge discussions?

Lets go all out with this one. I like its possibilities.

Paul_C: DON'T be a pussy!
None of the other folks I have met from the great state of South Carolina have been such - and you should step right up and post a manly post regarding the "260 Remington versus the 25/06 Remington" if thats in you!
I will go ahead and answer your newly induced and hopefully realized NEW posting by saying the following: I have owned several 25/06 Rifles over the years and currently own and Hunt with three Rifles in caliber 25/06 Remington.
I think the 25/06 Remington cartridge is a superb "medium" Big Game round.
And this, I will ADMIT that when I bought my first and only Rifle in 260 Remington that I was NOT especially enthusiastic about its performance possibilities afield!
I will take this opportunity to publicly admit I was way wrong in my trepidation over this 260 cartridge!
I have now killed Mule Deer, Antelope, Coyote and Whitetailed Deer with my Remington 700 VLS Rifle in 260 Remington caliber.
I am now a PROPONENT of the 260 Remington but would like to get a little more first hand experience with it before I definitively compare it to the 25/06!
I will also say this, I have seen several Elk harvested with the 25/06 Remington as well as a few Black Bear - I have not seen or done so myself any Elk or Black Bear harvested to date with the 260 Remington.
Again - no time for trolls or crapstirrers hereabouts - if you have a question then simply man up and ask it.
Keep up the good work Big Green by introducing interesting, useful and effective centerfire cartridges (like the 260 Remington and the 25/06 Remington) from time to time!
Hold into the wind

264 WM -

YEAH, that has real po-tiental....

Of ALL the 6.5s, the 6.5-06 and 264 WM interest me the most.

I don't see enuff difference between the 6.5-06 and 270 Win to be worth the effort and money. I DO know 'bout the 6.5 BCs, I have a 6.5X55. It leaves me a little 'BLAH'. "SO FAR", the only reason I don't sell/trade it, is the rifle itself!

For MYSELF, I'd just take the 264 WM and no muss no fuss.

If there ever was a 'TWEENER' caliber, it's 25. That's my personal opinion/feelings, not trying to start any flames.

Anyone remember when you just told your buds to have their chit zeroed and don't be late?

Don't we call that the good ole days.

Fo sho...

As much as I like to skullphuck numbers and voodoo, and wish I had one of "each", I've been swooned more by dollar signs. Chit happens. If a smoking deal had popped up on a 25-06 Montana when I was putting together my Faux 260, I'd be on here telling you how good I thought it was....

I'm a cheap date!

This is really a brass decision. I have multiple .260s and one 25-06.

O O -

I haven't noticed you sig. line before. I really like it.

Having said that, I'm NOT a pacifist by any means. I think the "white flags" raised on the Brooklyn bridge signifies that America is surrendering, at least with the O'bummer administration, if you can call it an administration???

BTW - I've NEVER been in/to NY/Brooklyn.

Hell I was just kidding. Finished reading the 7mm-08 vs .270 thread and though this would be an ironic and humorous joke smile

FWIW I love my .260, .270, .280, 7mm 'Mag, .300 Sav, .308. 30-06...they're like beautiful women. 'Cept I can have them all.
Posted By: 16bore Re: .260 vs 25-06 - 07/25/14
Waiting for the 260 vs. 7-08.
Posted By: Paul_C Re: .260 vs 25-06 - 07/26/14
That's not even an argument. The .260 has magical powers that the 7mm-08 does not possess.
Posted By: Salty303 Re: .260 vs 25-06 - 07/26/14
Its a well known fact the 260 remington is the finest deer cartridge on the internet
Posted By: 264wm Re: .260 vs 25-06 - 07/26/14

Now this one shakes up the 25-06 world.
The Noreen BN36 in 270,25-06 and 30-06.

Another good reason to hunt solo. Two if you ignore the first. smile

My first "caribou gun" was a Ruger 77V in .25-06 with fiddle-back stock, stem to stern. Factory all the way. Killed 23 caribou with it over 2 years time, mostly with the 120 Speer bullet.. MOA with fire-formed reloads, and 5 inch groups @100 with factory... Dynamite on caribou! In a dumass moment, I sold it.

God that was a beauty! I've never sold a gun in the 30 years since. And they are all ugly, but they shoot pretty good....

Back in 'bou country, I'm now hunting with a .260 Rem 725SA with a 700TI take-off bbl screwed on to replace the former .244 rusted out, inherited bbl. Ugliest gun I've ever owned. It likes 140 grain bullets, tho I prefer 120s in this caliber. No, you can't buy it...

The other one is a Mauser 98 with a 27 inch heavy "Finnish sniper" bbl found hru Sportsman's Guide in '06 caliber. Haven't tried anything but 150's in it, but with the first box of shells I did the initial sight-in, 6 caribou, and a couple sight-checks before various hunts... Can't buy this one either.

The 725 has killed to over 300 yards on bou, an elk at 150, wolf at 40. the Mauser out to 450 or so..

Both shoot 2 inch groups at 300, plus or minus a couple decimal points, depending ... both are zeroed at 300.

I'd trade both for that Ruger back.....tho caliber plays no issue in the desire. And neither produces the blood-shot trauma the Ruger did.

Boy, I'd like that Ruger back! smile
