Has anyone ever used a 30-06 to 308 chamber adaptor? I have a Remington 7600 Carbine in 30-06. I have a bunch of good 308 hunting ammo. I saw a few 30-06 to 308 chamber adaptors on some sites, most guys use them on BAR machine guns and that type of stuff that was originally made in 30-06. I'd like to know how well they'd work in my carbine. Any thoughts?

Thanks, NYH1.
don't know how they would work in the Remington but I had a client who had one in a garand. he never spoke of any problems with it.
It is best to avoid this conversion. You have to ream the chamber for the adapter. Shoulder body junction of the 308 is larger then the 30-06 body at this point. You can never go back to 30-06 after converting it to 308. Plus the adapters are prone to ejecting with a fired case at times. The military tried this with the M1 and soon gave it up as unworkable due to the adapters being ejected. They stopped the practice after a very short time.
Some Navy issued Garands had .308 chamber adapters installed in them, never heard of any issues with them.

You need to follow some of the M1 forums. There you will find that the adapters did indeed cause lots of problems. At that point Springfield Armory had to retool the barrel line and build actual 7.62 barrels for issue. Pictures, part numbers and descriptions are on these forums.

1+

They've even been known to eject after using permanent Lock-Tite. If you want a .308, buy one.
Wow
I was a member of my base rifle team 20 years ago.
The Armory issued us M-14s but they had M-1s that had the .308 insert....they did stop using those Garands because the adapters would come loose during a match.
