Well my buddy and I have been talking about the 6.5's lately and I back ordered us each a 260 today 22.5" barrel 8 twist. What are some good bullets and powders we should be on the look out for until our rifles come in. Thanks Jerrad
130 AB is a goodun..
100 ttsx if you wanna go solid.
H4831 and H4350..
FWIW,
I've had good luck with this load in both a Kimber Montana and my Sako Varmint.............
One can probably find a faster loading, but I for one will trade accuracy for velocity.
JAFO,
GWB
Thanks guys. Hope the guns show up before weather gets bad so we can play with them
Anything that rhymes with Scenar...

Uhhh.....
I just pick a day without blowing snow, then shoot straight up or down wind..... sometimes it's not even winter....
123 scenar for low drag / high BC with better velocity than 130's give.
120gr Nosler BTs are accurate and effective on whitetails in all three of my 260s.

Remingtons?
Want utilize the 8 twist ,and bullet BC and get the lengrndy energy & penetration go 140's or heavier
1:8 260 pretty much sews up everything from 243 to 270
Most common loads I run in mine for deer hunting, are a 100 grain bullet with a 43.5 gr charge of 4064, which gives me an MV of 3350 out of a 22 inch barrel Ruger... and 3400 fps out of a 26 inch barrel on a Model 700 Varmint or a Model 70 with an aftermarket barrel on it...
have had success in the field, with 100 grain Ballistic Tips, 100 grain Partitions, 100 grain Hornady SPs, and 100 grain Sierra HPs... 100 to 300 yds plus...
no flies on the 120s, 129 SP, Corelokt 140s or the other major manufacturers 140 grainers...125 partition...
the round isn't finicky when it comes to powders, to be made accurate...
Nope......
123 Scenars are a good balance of BC and speed IMO
Anyone had luck with 127LRX? Don't think a 1:9 will spin them...

I've had good results w/ the LRX's out of my 6.5CM w/ 8.5" twist. Hope to test on game (along w/ 123 Scenars) this year.

Thats not a remington.
This thread just took a very disturbing turn. OH MY!
But seriously....
Seems like there is a darth of factory 260's as far as I can tell. Always have my ear to the ground.
Good luck.
darth vader shoots a factory 260?
darth vader shoots a factory 260?
No no..

This is getting repetitious but here goes again:
MY .260 won't shoot any factory 120 worth a crap. 160's aren't far behind. Likes 140's- especially the Corelokt. Haven't reloaded for it yet.
Action is a Rem725 re-barreled from .244 factory with a 700TI stainless.
Have no idea what the twist is, but I can live the MOA or less 140's, tho I'd like to try the 129/130's down the road.
Where can u buy a tikka 260 at right now
My Go to is H4350/130 AB, Lapua = <.5" at 200 yds, 3 shots
I'd shoot anything with it in NA, save Big Bears, to sane range.
125gr. NPT's and I-4350.-Muddy
Trying to locate a factory off the shelf 260 is a getting a tad frustrating. They do exist:
http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/16FCSSBut evidently not at Davidson's or Buds or any store I can find.
260s are available any way ya want them....
its called take an action down to a reputable gunsmith and voila, you can end up with a 260....
why search all over the place for a factory model??? that probably isn't going to shoot half as good as a gunsmith rebarrel...
The only competent gunsmith within 100 miles of me has a two year turn around. I know, because he rebuilt two rifles for me. I don't have that many years left! Seriously... Way too @#$% frustrating.
I am not familiar with reputable gunsmiths out and about; but if it were no hassle, 6 months or less I would scratch my haid again and reconsider the whole thing. I even thought about ER Shaw, but I am not certain how they do.

You're making it way too hard. There are a lot of reputable gunsmiths out there that can turn around a simple remington rebarrel job really quickly, like a few days once you get the parts to them. A little research will reveal who they are & UPS will take care of getting the stuff to them, no reason to stick to locals. Two years is ridiculous, there's nobody worth waiting that long for. You don't need to wait for barrels either, go to southern precision rifles website and they have plenty of Brux, Bartlein, and Krieger 6.5 mm barrels ready to ship in various contours. If you have a remington you wanted to rebarrel there's no reason you couldn't order the barrel and have it installed by one of several good gunsmiths & have it back to you inside a month easily.
Thanks for the heads up neighbor.
I sent you a PM with the names of a few good, fast gunsmiths I know.

Thanks a million. Honestly.
If I were getting that silly for a 6.5, I wouldn't be just looking at a .260..
Mule Deer splained the mo better aspects of the creedmore a few months back; seems right. But I already got dies and one varminter in a heavy barrel.
But bumping up beyond the 260 its a throat eroder; going down its too anemic.
I honestly think the 260 is very nearly small arms perfection; at least for white tail and ground hogs that I chase. I do enjoy the debate though...
A wise man said bullets matter more than headstamps, but ymmv.
Another set of dies and a bag of brass are a no brainer to me, unless you're just wanting to finger bang the phone and computer.
Thank you for your cryptic suggestion...
I haven't got a clue what you are trying to communicate.
If you think a 6.5 chambering is better than the 260 why not just spit it out and get to the point.
So if going with the scenar go with 123gr over the 139grns? Thanks Jerrad

~2700 FPS. Posted this recently in another thread. Works well IME on deer, hogs, Elk. Same load does well in a Model 7 20".

123's should be ~2,900'ish, 139's ~2,700'ish. Drift is the same to 500, drop obviously a bit better with the 123's, about 8" less.
Prolly a toss up to be decided by groups.
Okay may try both and see if the 6.5/284 likes the others
Thanks again Jerrad
I did pick up some accubonds

Well here's how an ER Shaw did on a Model 70 SA I put it on...
The is with less than a dozen rounds down the barrel...I had just put it on there...first trip to the range...
50 yds....
Group "opened up some" at 100 yds...
The guys that say they are a crap barrel, well I have no idea what they are expecting...
This barrel is 26 inches, heavy Magnum contour, 1 in 8 twist...
One thing I like about the 260 over the Creedmoor, is brass availability....I get a pretty good supply of it for free.. its called necking down 308 brass that I pick up laying around the range on the ground.. the Creedmoor doesn't offer that opportunity.. lotta guys shoot 308, which supplies me with all the brass I could ever need...they want to ditch it after one shot, I'll take it and give it a good home...
Montana Rifle Company makes a nice one with a nice long mag box and a handy 22" barrel.
It is already bedded, the trigger is nice, has a 3-position safety on the bolt. Overall, it is very comfortable and very solidly built.
I honestly think the 260 is very nearly small arms perfection; at least for white tail and ground hogs that I chase. I do enjoy the debate though...
It almost is. That's why there is also the 7mm-08.
