One trick that I've done when going a little wild with the silver webbing is to go over the silver webbing with a little black webbing, kind of cancelling out some of the overzealous silver. Not sure how it would look on your lighter base color though.

Actual webbing or did you monkey with the nozzle on regular paint?

Mark, looks great to me, you got me thinking I should have gone with web paint on my Ruger American stock I just finished. I tried to make it look like NatGear camo.

Well, who would have thought? I was picturing an overlay of webbing painting on top of a base coat.

K1500, you're right, you have to spray the base color of your choice then over spray with the web paint. I think someone posted a how to on it....maybe huntsman22 I know he has posted pics of stocks he has done.

I gave a go on a plastic SUCKS stock I had. Later that afternoon I wrapped it around a tree and ordered another McMillan.

I used two different cans of the Krylon webbing; one silver and one black.

Paradiddle, my apologies. Perhaps I was remiss in my response to Steelhead.

I hugely enjoy Boxer/Larry/Big Stick/Busheler. He takes wonderful pix, has a keen intellect, a wicked sense of humor and timing and a killer instinct. If it weren't for Boxer, I would not have posted half the pix I have over the last 18 months. In fact, he posts regularly at ARAIG. If I were missing him all that much, I could always give him a wake-up call there.

It seems to me that Steelhead wakes up every morning and believes someone has pissed in his Cheerios.

I think you'd have to look long and hard to find a thread where I initiated a negative comment about someones choice in regards to how, what or when they do what they do other than Steelhead and Savage99 for that matter. In regards to those two individuals, my response is usually to lampoon a blanket statement or negative comment. Perhaps it is the perception borne out over the last 18 months or so in various posts and forums in regards to Steelhead that engendered my response to him earlier in this thread.

Looks fine to me. I did about the same on my one and only effort but instead of silver I used black over an army/olive green. Surprising how well adding webbing increases the camo effect. Better not lay that thing down in he grass.

Acutally, I typically shoot them with a rifle or pistol. In this case, about 5 minutes apart.



Just so happens the very same rattle-can Rem 700 KS in 300 H&H pictured above. 175 yds. +/-, 180 gr. Barnes TSX. Red dropped at the shot. Brownie I hit a little high and had to track about 150 yds.

That is graphite black, it's holding up very well. My gunsmith did a great job,he said the application is the secret to success.

Dry to a tacky feel then 1 good covering of Make it stone paint

Dry toa tack again the spray with web

Let this dry for a week

Then a light coat of clear to glue it all down

Green to Tan fade with black web on my Kimber 308

Some good looking stuff here, I'm gonna give it a try. Assuming you keep the webbing out of the barrel channel? Probably spray one coat of the base color in there to make it match, then try not to build it too much so it doesn't start getting tight.

Haha. I am not sure I love it, but it is functional and some sandpaper and paint away from being different. It came with wood which I took off. I had an original plastic stock off my T3 lite (now wearing B&C Medalist), so I experimented.

My wife is artsy-fartsy and she said it was cool. Ingwe is only fartsy, but he commented favorably as well!

I like the webbing look and have it on several rifles. Wanted something different on this one. It's different!

Do you sand off the checkering before painting? I've got a factory Hawkeye stock that's a bit rough looking, but not sure how the paint and webbing would look applied over the checkering. Can't quite see in the pics how you guys handled that.

Or fill checkering with acraglass. I love the webbing look. Seems like tan with black webbing would blend anywhere.

An easy paintjob on this Husky. Speckles rather than webbing.

Earlier this eyar I bought a Savage 110 in .243 from a fellow fire member. Stock was done in exactly the same paint and color.

I kind of dig it and though it is the cheapo factory stock it grouped well. I added pillars and will finish bedding in the week or so, but will likely keep the stock the same or do something like this

Guys, I like a lot of these paint jobs very much. I have a good rifle whose stock would lose to a fence post in a good-looking contest.
Would someone give ne a step-by-step how-to or the link to it if already posted? The "search" function here can't even find itself at least with me driving it.

Maybe it is much more simple than I think; however, can somebody provide a step-by-step process for doing these nice webbing paint jobs I see. I would hate to screw up a good stock with my vast amount of ineptitude.

I always file and sand a Ti stock to make it feel right for me

The wrist needs thinned and every single sharp corner will get a heavy radius......for feel and to hold paint......sharp corners chip paint

Usualy the bolt handle slot needs cleard because it is eather out of center or not deep enough to allow a full bolt closure......lots of file work here

All the action bedding/trigger gaurd bedding and barrel floating are then done before paint

I sand off all the factory paint down to the gel coat then start the layering process.



If I drank in between each step I would never finish one up

Blow the stock off with compressed air then put on some ruber gloves and wipe it all down with thinner

Mask off with blue tape

2 or 3 base coats of Black Fusion.......dry to a tack

Stone texture lightly

2 or 3 color coats......light moss green in this case.......again dry to a tack

over coat with a light coat of stone then webb.......24 hours dry min

The next day rub the stock down vigorously wearing latex gloves to break off the stray webbing

Matt clear a couple coats and away you go

The one on the right still lacks bolt flutes ( I will cut them this winter ) but other than that they are identical twin 700's

1st gen Ti stocks filed/sanded/bedded and heavily floated

Steel trigger gaurds........bedded

The all new Leupold screw on turrets are on order and should be here in 2 weeks

One shoots 150's the other 180's no more dickin with point of zero change when going up or down

I think you got it perfect! It looks great. Definitely not too heavy.

The top one definitely has the perfect amount of webbing and looks much better than the other 2 below it.

Just depends on your taste on any given day........

Where are you guys finding the webbing spray? After a trip to Home Depot, Walmart and Lowes yielding nothing, I am beginning to grow weary...

I ordered mine from my local hardware store

I had to buy the entire 6 can case but it beats Amazon

BTW........my new case of cans are marked "marbling" not webbing as they were in the past

and the marbling spray is finer than the old web kind.....

A few years back I found that a local craft store carried the webbing spray. Their selection of webbing sprays were limited, but they had the black webbing that I wanted.

How durable is the finish say compared to one of the factory jobs?

Jury is still out on that.


Mine have held up good...but I haven't really put them through the abuse I used to...

A couple are on rifles that get used more than a normal guys rifle, and they are still OK

The Krylon Fusion, webbing, and a few coats of the matte clear have held up pretty well for me.

I've also been experimenting with a clear marine epoxy with a bit of grit in it for the clear coat to make it more grippy. That finish seems tougher.

Why not just 'practice' on an old 2x4 ?......

Anybody have problems when spraying the clearcoat? I tried the krylon clear/matte sprayed over krylon camo and it melted the damn paint. Luckily I did a test spray before hitting the whole gun.

that's because you sprayed it too thick. Think 2-4 light coats instead of one big one.....

Actually I just did a very light, quick spray and the paint separated. I'm wondering if it was just the clear I used. Also, how long should you wait to hit it with the clear? Maybe I did it too soon after painting. Waited about an hour or so.

then I don't know..... I've clearcoated after an hour in the sun, and never a problem with light coats.

Try to match name brands if at all possible

IE.....Krylon on Krylon

Rustolium on same.....get it?

Hobby Lobby is about the only place I've seen it around here.
