First time in 10+ years that I'll be hunting with factory ammunition. Just moved this year in April and between work and honey-do list on an 1890's farm house I haven't had time to set up my bench. 2006 was the last time I went hunting with a .270 Win so I didn't have any stocks of hand loads left either plus it's a new M70 EW that I put together.

I've helped buddies in the past that don't reload, and found Federal Power Shock in the blue box to be pretty accurate. So I bought 100 rounds of the same lot of 130 grain and have been hitting the range for a few rounds every chance I can get. The ammunition hasn't been disappointing yet and today I took it to 300 yards.

I shot one round at 100 to make sure noting changed since I accidentally knocked my rifle over in the soft case this morning. After confirming my zero was correct I dialed in 3 MOA on the CDS dial and let fly one round, I saw dirt on the berm fly above the steel plate so I was high. Dropped it 2 clicks and let lose another and had a solid hit, so I let two more fly then packed up to go meet my wife for lunch.

I shot from the prone on a Harris bi-pod with my hunting day pack tucked under my right arm. I was so happy with the group I might try taking it out to 500.

Either way if it keeps shooting like this I'll be set when my season rolls around.

What unit?

The big buck may die from laffin' at the chambering before the 130 hits him. wink

I don't care how much the deer laugh as long as the best one laughs hardest before the 130 gets there.

I don't really like giving up my unit, so i hope you don't take any offense. It's not a premium unit but it is starting to have real potential for big deer, and I don't want the competition driving up the points needed for a tag. I normally hunt this unit during 3rd season pre rut on landowner tags, but I decided to burn my points this year. My daughter turns 12 in January and can start hunting with me so I thought we should start out with equal points, so I burned pronghorn as well. I'm kind of in no man's land for elk with too many to burn and too few to draw. Moose is a whole other headache all together.
Man I knew getting rid of that EW was a bad idea!! Glad it went to one of the good guys and I'll expect to see some critter pics this fall. Nice shootin man!! When you get tired of it you know who to get ahold of....lol.

Very nice! That rifle looks like a great shooter. Nothing wrong with that, that's for sure!

Good luck, you have the goods to make it happen..
Damn nice rifle. Good luck on your hunt!!!

Thanks, there is a rumor that huntsonora might show up for a couple of days to hang out. I'm hoping his skill for getting on big bucks might rub off a bit.
Drummond is a cool guy. You'll have fun I'm sure...

Now you've resorted to cheatin'........good luck!
I don't mind cheating a little bit. Drum is an awesome dude and a good friend to have in a guys corner. He gave me a lot of pointers when I had to move to Lubbock for some work almost two years ago.

I would have loved to been able to do some hunting in your neck of the woods JG. Saw a few hogs around Sweetwater as well as a few other exotics. Money was just a little tight at that time for any good hunting, but my stay in Lubbock was awesome.
Cool deal taylor.....I hope you whack a giant!
