Hey guys, Im planning on purchasing a Ruger American Stainless 223 full size rifle.

Pretty sure Im just gunna plink around with it and probably a deer or two.

Don't think I could go wrong with a SWFA 30mm fixed 6 or 10 power, leaning towards the 10. What do you guys think?

Also, how should I mount it as I've never owned a RAR before.

Thanks everyone
Savage round top mounts fit it.
It's up to you, but on a light, handy rifle a Tactical scope of any brand would not be my first choice.

I know that some guys like big glass, but those are too large and heavy for the rifle, for my sense of esthetics, and a 10x is going to be too much mag for most situations, but I have rifles so equipped and can get used to it.

In the SWFA lineup, look at the 3-9...still large but better glass helps.

If money were an issue, a 4x or 6x Weaver K4, or a Leupold FX II, or 2-7 Redfield. Those would work better for me.

I also like the compact model in 223.

The Ruger comes with bases and the Predator model has a rail.

I use Weaver Rings on mine and two "budget" scopes...

one is an older Simmons "4 x 4", in 4.5 x 14...I use that one with long range bullets.. 75 and 80 grainers....

for shorter range stuff ( like 30/30 ranges or so) I use a Bushnell 1.5 x 4.5 Shot Gun Scope, with a Circle X Reticle...

I have a Bushnell 3 x 9 AR/223 Rifle Scope in rings to play with the next time I make it over to the range.... either that or the 4.5 x 18 AR/223 Bushnell Scope may replace the Simmons 4 x 4...

Mine is seeing service as a Bounce Around Truck Gun.. and is a Predator chambered in 223...

Played with the 1.5 x 4.5 Shotgun scope also, for subsonic loads using 75 grain BTHPs with a charge of 5.5 grains of Unique...
I just used the supplied bases, bought some Weaver low rings and a Weaver classic K 4X38.

Thought about some Talley light weights and a Leupold 6X36 but..........
