Hey Everyone,

It's great to be here on 24 Hour Campfire!

We are a full service gunsmith shop in Calera, AL. We operate out of a 4000sq/ft facility and specialize in producing custom shotguns and bolt rifles. Check us out at www.HuDisCo.com and on facebook at HDC Gunsmithing.

To kick things off properly I wanted to extend a special offer to the members here. We will pick two members that respond to this post to build rifles for at the cost of parts only. We'll throw in all the labor. There are a few caveats.

1. The rifle has to be built on our M2014 action, and;
2. The rifle has to use high quality parts (Barrel, Stock, and Trigger) purchased though HDC, and;
3. We'll be supplying the reamer so standard chamberings only please (no wildcats), and;
4. We want you to write up your thoughts on the rifle here on the forum.

Introduce yourself below and send us a PM on why you should be picked. We'll choose the 2 winners after Jan 1.

Looking forward to working with everyone here. We've heard great things about the campfire and are excited to be here.

Best regards,

Nathan Hunt
$375 for a barrel installation! I'm hoping that includes finish work?
As a formality only, Nathan did set up an advertising arrangement with me.

As an aside, it's been a while since I built a rifle, but after talking to him, I think I have the itch to build another, and I am going to send some parts his way.

I have a feeling Nathan is going to do pretty well around here once his wares hit.
I wish him luck. As far as wanting a rifle built. I have all that taken care of. I will, however, make a suggestion that he builds ingwe a new rifle. It needs to be a 270 win. Maybe some of us can pitch in a few dollars to get this rolling.... wink
I would like a rifle built to test but I do not want to pay for any of the parts.

Please see my name when deciding if I am the winner.

I would also like to add that I am a close personal friend of shrapnel.

Travis
Did I miss the price list on the website? Looks like some nice sticks.
Welcome aboard! It'll be interesting to hear some reviews of your work once it gets in folks hands.
Welcome to the Fire. I hope your business is very successful.

Again, welcome to the Campfire.

I guy could always use one more rifle.
Welcome. It makes me happy to see fellow vets starting their own businesses. I'd be game to build a rifle, you can never have too many!

I like your style
Thanks for everyone's comments and pm's. I really appreciated the pm's. You guys have put together a great group here.

We spent all morning in the woods and the rest of the day celebrating an early Christmas with family.

I'll try to post up some customer results with our rifles and some more info on our action when I get back into the shop on Monday.

Hope everyone is having a very Merry Christmas.

Best regards,

Nathan
Do you offer your action in left hand?
Welcome to the fire, I just looked your site over and was wondering what it would cost to to get just the barrels from my side by side cerakoted? Looks like you do some nice work, I'll be sending you a pm.
You have potential to do well, if you can separate wheat from chaff, around our area. Lots of precision rifle shooters and competitive folks around central/north Alabama, to dig in with, doing it right. Best of luck. I'll paruse some more, as you get the site updated, and am on the warpath for a new build, anyway.

Bill
Yeah, some prices might be a good idea.

Congrats, you won our gunsmithing services for free but you have to use our action. Our action costs $4000.

Welcome to the Fire!
Nathan, welcome. Count me in on the rifle build. I'd be happy to win it.

I've used these guys for a cerakote job recently and the work was top notch.

Welcome to 24hr from me

Lee
Nathan.....

Good to see you over here...

Hope you do well...
Welcome

A quality custom rifle and/or shotgun is a great thing. I would love to give one of yours a spin.

Don't be ridiculous Scotty. You mean to tell me you wouldn't pay that much for a cerakoted rem 700 action...??? Damn, you are pickier than I thought...
So, I cannot specify a controlled round feed, fixed ejector, claw extractor action? I saw no checkered and nicely figured wood stocks on your site, either.

Since the above is my strong preference, I would not be a good marketer for your wares, but a hearty and sincere wish and hope for good luck here. Lots of guys here at 24hrcf like the kinds of rifles you are producing.
Welcome to the 'fire!

Just do your homework, and don't make unsubstantiated claims and you'll do just fine around here!
Here's a little more info on our action. I'll try to take some pictures of one of our recent builds and post them up shortly.

Thanks again for everyone's comments.

Standard "700" footprint for ease of stock selection and off-the-shelf custom fit
Heat treated before machining to prevent changing tolerances
Wire EDM-cut, full-length lug ways provide smooth bolt operation and unsurpassed strenth and ridigity
Actions available in Medium, Long, and X-Long lengths to accommodate all popular factory chamberings
Deep fluted bolt, "sheep" port, and aluminum bolt shroud save weight in non-critical areas
Action total weight within ounces of comparable titanium actions
Stainless action body and parkerized chromoly bolt allow for tight tollerances and elliminate galling
Extractors are M-16 or Sako type depending on application
Optics mounts are compatable with 700 style recievers and are secured with 8-40 screws to manage recoil sheer forces
Right and left hand configurations available
@Safari Man,

Not as part of this deal, but if you wanted a rifle built like that we could definitely accommodate. There are lots of high quality actions to choose from that have those features.

We have a lot of background in wood finishing and stock work from the shotgun side of the house. Would be a fun project.
How far are you from Huntsville. Always looking for a good gunsmith. Welcome to the fire!
Any more CeraKote Group Buys? grin
Welcome to the campfire! Your work looks great! I'm sure you will be busy from everyone here.

What stainless are you using to build your action on? Can they be ordered with Wyatt's cutout?

Also maybe a list of reamers available would be a good idea.

Don't bother with him. He's a cheat and goes on and on about his rifle preference when it doesn't even pertain to the topic.

Welcome and hope you do well here.
Love your fuggin flashing ad.

Welcome to the 'fire.

Most folks here play well with others.
Dan Dowling did my last rifle for about half what you charge.

When you say "match grade" do you mean world record class?

If not, you are over priced.
For HuDisCos sake I hope he doesn't use the word proprietary.......LMAO...

Thanks!

We've been making a lot of changes and updates here recently.

We have our services and shotgun pricelist and are working up final pricing for the Timos. The challenge is always deciding what options should be "standard".

Complete build pricing will be different from the standard services pricelist due to significant overlap of labor.

We should have the initial pricelist with options finished up shortly after the holidays.

I think we're just over an hour away from Huntsville.

We're about 20 mins south of Birmingham on 65. Come visit anytime.
I thought I recognized the name.

Fellow uh-60 crew dog from the same units...

Best of luck here!

Our action is made by Defiance Machine. We've built off of several different manufacturers, but these guys are the best. We worked with them for weeks to determine the feature set we wanted and ended up with a modified version of the Rebel. We actually CNC'ed up to make our own, but these guys are so good to work with it just isn't worth it.

The action body is made from 416SS and the bolt body is 4340CM Parkerized.

I'm sure we can make the cut for a Wyatt's, but it may be more worthwhile to use the XM action.

Our reamer list is growing every week. If we don't have it, we'll buy it and add it to our inventory. Exceptions to this are managed on a case-by-case basis. We won't want to inventory something really oddball or a wildcat for example.

Great questions. Thanks for posting.

Welcome to the fire and the best of luck
When looking at those prices a guy can quickly lose motivation to build a custom.
Nathan, Welcome to the fire.
A few weeks back I drove to Nathan's shop and helped him Cerokote a bunch of barreled actions. The dude's a really nice guy with a slick shop. His work on my coating jobs was great. I got to take he and his wife and kid to lunch and it was just a total pleasure. Great equipment, great service, great time.

Thanks, Nathan.

Tim
There is an e numeral amount of views on this site...as you can see from the responses your first post has generated. Welcome aboard, always room for another smith.

Tim,

We really enjoyed it too. Visit again some time.

You're one of the reasons we decided to come here.

Hope you and your family had a great Christmas.

Best,

Nathan

Calvin,

Our rifle services price list is separate from Timos pricing. Our Timos rifles start at just $2800. The rifle services list is for a customer gun that is brought or sent in.

I just completed the Timos order form and am having it added to our page now. It should be up in the next day or so.

If anyone wants a copy before then, pm me your email address and I'll send it over.

Thanks for the post!

Best,

Nathan

But they love Cobras...

Nathan, thank you for your service, and making yourself known here.

Looking forward to your builds, comments, and experience.

How far are you from Atlanta?
Welcome to the Campfire!

I'd like to get some trigger time on one of your rifles.

Got to shoot a can of 20mm from the front seat of an AH-1F. Snakes are way cool!
I hope 35 Whelen is considered a standard reamer!
Nathan,
Welcome to the Fire!

Can you tell me how much lighter the action you spec'd is vs. the Defiance Rebel action?

Thanks!

I used to run a flex fire GAU-2B myself. laugh

That said, there's something awesome about watching the attack birds on the bump. 30mm chain guns and rockets would literally shake your clothes standing on the ground.

Those were the days.

No problem with this. I'm a big fan of the 35's. Building a 358 win now.

Good question. I'll try to get some exact numbers tomorrow.

Just talked this over with them at length. It's a tough question to answer because the Rebel has so many options. Our action weighs in at about 22oz for the short version. Using a completely "standard" short action as the point of reference, we're saving about half a pound give or take an ounce or two.

Great question. Thanks again for posting.

Best regards,

Nathan
Awesome, thanks for the follow- up!
The Timos build sheet is up on the website now.

Thanks again for everyone's comments!

Best regards,

Nathan
When will you be choosing the winners of the build?
We're going to go through them all again and make a choice tomorrow. smile
Looks like beautiful work to me but a bit out of my reach.
Always fun to look though, hope to see some photos of the rifles in action!
Good Luck!
This has been a really awesome experience. I'm really blown away by the quality of people that we've been in contact with during this.

We had a super tough time choosing the 2. PM's sent. Looking forward to working with you guys.

While we can't afford to do too much of this sort of thing. We had too many awesome people writing us to just pick two. So, everyone that sent a PM to enter is getting a certificate good for $250 towards a rifle.

Thanks for everyone's posts and messages.

Best regards,

Nathan
Just wanted to say thanks to Nathan...sent in the barrels from my stoeger to get them cerakoted, absolutely fantastic job and great turnaround time. Really took good care of me, will be using them again if I ever need anything else coated. I'll get some picks of the cerakote job up later.
Glad to see you here.

Some of the pics didn't come out as clear as I would have liked, really a fantastic job. Socom blue was a pretty close match to the original blue. Very pleased with this.
It does look good
Thanks for the post Tim!

Really glad you're happy with them.
