so I ge a good buy on a Ruger 77 tang in 250 savage. will be ordering dies for it. since it is 1-10 twist should shoot everything fine. Going to use for whitetails and coyotes. Anyone have any load info on Barnes? What kind of velocities are you getting with various 100 grainers? Thought a 117 roundnose might be a good woods load for Northern Wisconsin deer where the shots are normally pretty close

When I used to deer hunt with the 250 at woods ranges I used the Hdy 117 gr or Speer 120. Great bullets both, and perfect for what you're doing. Generally the reason to shoot a 250 over a 243 is the ability to use heavier bullets than 100's. Otherwise the marbles are all in the 6mm's corner. At least that's how I see it...

The 80 grain TTSX for deer and 75 grain VMax for coyotes would be proven options.

The 100gr Hornady Interlokt and the 87gr Speer is all one needs to make that little 250 a real killer. powdr

What velocity are you getting with 100 grain Hornsby? My barrel actually measures 21 1/4 inches. It is factory barrel

I have a 700 Rem. in .250 and I load 40 gr. H414 and a 100 gr, core-lokt. It averaged 3050 fps. Shot a 3/4" group just leaning over the hood of my pickup. Took it to Wyoming and it really works good on pronghorn.

I have a 77 RSI that likes the hornady 117 RN over H4831 for about 2575. Haven't shot anything but paper, but it consistently goes under an inch. Looking forward to shooting a deer this fall. It also likes the 100 gr. Speer over 33.5 gr H4895 for 2775 and smallish groups. My 99A likes that load for about 2825 out of the 20" barrel.

another vote for 75g NBT when going up against coyotes.

I bought a c.1985 Ruger M77RL Ultralight in .250 Savage when it was new.

My favorite load uses a Remington nickle-plated case trimmed to 1.900, CCI primer, 35 grains of IMR-4320, and a 120 grain Sierra GameKing HPBT, seated to an O.A.L. of 2.515" That's 1/10th under max charge in the Sierra manual, so use at your discretion.

My rifle will group that down to .660" for five shots at 100 yards. It shouldn't, I know... But it does and has done from new. I reckon I got a good one.

I substitute the bullet sometimes for the Hornady Interlock SPBT 117 grain. The accuracy isn't quite as good in my rifle with that as with the Sierra. Still sub MOA or right around it for some groups.

I loaded up Steelheads load for the Hornady 117 gr round nose but my rifle preferred 39.5 grains of H-4831, accuracy is .562 for 3 shots.

I also tried the Hornady 117 gr SST bullet with H-4831 which preferred
1/2 grain more of H-4981 than the 117 gr round nose. This bullet is almost to long for the little 250 savage as the load is quite compressed. I should have tried the Hornady 117 gr soft pint boat tail which I had on hand. I am just not a boat tail fan preferring flat base bullets.

My primary load is 34.5 of R-15 using the Hornady 100 gr interlock loaded in necked up Remington 22/250 nickel cases.

My Savage American Classic likes the Nosler 100 gr Oartition loaded with H4895 to book max. The two deer I took with it were DRT. Accuracy was equal to the 100 gr Sierra with IMP4064 but with a better deer bullet. Watched both drop in the scope. The first at 267 yds the second at about 120 yds.

This will be useful information for me too, I just purchase a stainless Ruger 77 International carbine in .250.
My old Savage 99A ( 1-10" twist) liked the Hornady 117RN and I took a couple big Saskatchewan whitetails with it. Looking forward to trying out the new one.
