I finished my 22-250 build today with 1&8 twist. I used a Left Hand 700 action and a Shilen #4 Select Match SS Barrel. I chambered the barrel last week, cut to 25 inch with 90 degree recessed target crown and bead blasted the barrel. I have been waiting on the Boyd Classic Stock which came yesterday . I open up the barrel channel for the # 4 barrel and the recoil lug cutout for the Holland recoil lug. I glassed bedded and floated the barrel. I replaced the trigger with a LH Timney 1.5 to 4 lb straight trigger which i set at around 2 lb's . Scope is a Leupold 4.5 X 14 30 mm with Leupold Varmint Reticle . My starting load will be the Hornady 75 gr V-Max with H4350 in Lupua Brass and i will go from there. This should make a great calling rifle . I love being able to build my own rifles with no wait having to sent to someone else to do the work.

Very nice!
Bea, a sharp rifle there.. Hope your venture with the fast twist and 75 gr. Horn.'s works out better than mine did.. Nice to be able to do you own work.. I have NO skills in that direction..
Great job..
If the 75 gr A-Max's don't work then i will try the Nosler 60 gr BT.
Keep me posted.. Mine shot very well, but with 55 gr.Sierra HPBT"S..
I hope it likes the A-Max because i purchased 600 of them, but if not i will use them in my 1&7 twist AR.
Best of luck.. A nice rifle..
Nice looking rifle.
Very nice.
Nice rifle just noticed your location same town you shoot at one of the local ranges or you have your own place?
Bea,

If the 75 a-max doesn't repsond well, I'd strongly advise trying the new, 69 or 77 tipped Match Kings. My 1:8 x-bolt didn't like the a-max with any load I tried, but immediately starting printing little bitty groups with the 69 tmks.

Dave
Sweet rifle.

And don't overlook the Hornady 75 hpbt.

my own place, plus i have some of the Sierra 69 gr MK
Bea,

Nice rifle and good luck with it. You don't hear of too many folks (at least here) using Shilen barrels. My LGS does, and he's putting a heavy fluted #4 on the 6.5 Creedmore he is building for me.
Diggin it. Very nice, cept for the LH thing.

Dave.
Nice rifle fast twist 22-250 has always sounded fun. I have a shilen select match on my 6.5x55 you will be very pleased.
I believe Bea has used a number of Shilen barrels with much success.

bea, that looks like the perfect rifle for Springbok.

Looks really good.

The first three powder i tried shot two touching and one out to open the groups to 3/4 inch which may have been me. H4350 and Rel 15 with the Hornady 75 gr A-Max, other groups were three shots just under 3/4 inch. The IMR 4895 load shot the same but was just to hot and i will pull the bullet on the last six and drop the charge one gr. I'm going to try the same loads with a different seating depth and the H4350 i am dropping the powder charge 1/2 to 1 gr on the next loading the bolt opening was a little stiff with the loads i tried. I just purchased three boxes of Sierra 80 gr MK HP , two pounds of IMR 4831 to try. I'm hoping for groups under 1/2 inch with heavy bullets. These were the first loads down the barrel. I fired one fouling shot and two three shot groups and then cleaned, barrel cleaning up with just four or five patches with Butch Bore Shine with no copper fouling starting with the third cleaning .
Bea175: I am sooo jealous! Beautiful rig. Well done! When do you plan to raffle it off...?
Very nice looking rifle !
Wish I knew how to build my own too.

I've got a 1/8 22-250 with a Kreiger #5 on it built on a 700 LA.
The only powder I have used is H4831SC.
It shoots pretty much all the 75-80 gr bullets very well on top of it.
77 gr SMKs are black magic though.
I also use 4831sc in my 8 twist 22-250. I get right around 3350 with 80 Sierras and a bit more with 75 Bergers but my barrel is 28 inches. I have been intending to try some A-max's but haven't gotten around to it. GD
I just loaded up some Sierra 80 gr MKHP's with IMR 4831
Really nice rifle. I bet she'll be a tack driver with that load!!!
