What are your hunting experiences with Federal Fusion ammo?

A friend sold his 270 and gave me a couple of boxes of Fusion with the 150 grain bullet. I had never shot this Federal ammo and, to say the least, I am very pleased with the five shot groups I am getting.

My hunting shots could range from 30 yards to a little over 300 yards. Has your practical experience shown this bullet will perform over that wide range of distance? My worry would be blowing up with no penetration on the short shots and no mushrooming at the longer distances.

I have been using 150 grain Nosler Partition in those distances with no problems of any kind. Fusion is much cheaper is why I would consider a change.

Does Federal make any bad ammo?

Because of the higher velocity and flatter trajectory, I prefer to shoot 130 grain bullets in my 270s, but I would shoot 150 grain Fusions if they were my only choice.

If you're hunting for trophies, I think that the extra $$ spent on ammo that you have confidence in would be worth it, if for no other reason than for the peace of mind that it would provide. If you're shooting does or non-trophy culls where you can be highly selective, the bullet you use is less critical.

I don't know about longer shots but I have no reason to think they wouldn't expand. They are one of my favorite bullets.

This one went length ways through a 4 point entering the left front of the chest destroying the shoulder and one lung. It exited the lower gut and entered again in the hind leg breaking it and lodging there against the leg bone. I'm convinced that the full length damage resulted in a short blood trail.

The shot was about 40 yards and the deer was facing me. 270 150 fusion.

I could stick my fist in the hole in the shoulder and there was so much shock that corn from the stomach was in the shoulder tissue.
I shot all three pigs and both deer on this hunt with that round. Distance from 30 to 130 yards. Everything dropped within sight.

If it shoots well for you use it. My 270 loves the stuff. Got a whitetail buck at 265 yards.
One shot. Bang flop. No wasted meat.

Mine have all been positive. Including the accuracy. I've shot 5 deer with it and none have taken a step. Literally.

3 with a 140gr in .280 and 2 with a 30-06 165gr.

The only one that wasn't a pass thru was a buck shot at 10 yards behind the left shoulder on a 1/4'ing away shot. The bullet ended up in the neck, just behind the head on the right side.
Im shooting 150 fusions i a 270wsm and its reliability in killing Wisconsin whitetails is getting boring. No drama; no fuss; 1" groups; pull trigger and deer only move with gravity.. Straight down! I imagine 270 win performance will be similar.

I miss having to track deer!?!?!?!

Ok, Im full of male bovine manure on the tracking comment...
