Anyone know any specifics? THis might be the perfect all around lower 48 gun from varmints to elk.
New model? Where was it talked about?
Just saw this myself, hoping that Whitaker orchestrates a group buy, if not, just have to scrounge one up else where...should be dandy rigs.
Eurooptic must have been leaning forward a bit on this one.
Eurooptic.com The threaded barrel should be interesting, might have to use an adapter to get to 5/8x24 though.

What are you wanting to know? They are supposedly chambering their Montana in 6.5 creed for this year.
IS it a really going to happen? Anyone know a time frame when it is supposed to be available. I am assuming it will be around the 5.2-5.4 pound bare range.
oops, confused by the original question. Was thinking Montana Rifle Company, not Kimber Montana. But as a lefty, Kimber cares nothing about me, so I care nothing about them. One thing I know they won't be offering is LH models, because they do not hesitate to make that known every year.

They treat you guys like a red-headed step-child. My daughter is a lefty and I would love to get one for her.
Think the Longmaster should be offered in 6.5 CM also.
Montana rifle Co. chambers the 6.5 creedmoor. I'm waiting for the kimber myself.
I'll do a group deal for you guys on the Kimber Montana 6.5 Creedmoor if you'd like. I'm at SHOT now and will meet with them.
I'll get back on later tonight to let you know the details...
Ask them if there are any plans to do a rimfire in a Montana-like platform.

I would be interested in that.
hopefully Kimber's website is wrong on the 12 twist in the 6.5 Creed Montana.
hopefully Kimber's website is wrong on the 12 twist in the 6.5 Creed Montana.
That would be a deal killer for me.
They won't twist it 12, unless they want to sell 2 of them. If the group buy is an 8 twist, I'd be interested in one.
It's wrong. I've seen it listed at 1:8.

+1
Very interested in hearing more and getting in on a group buy.
The image of the Montana model on Kimber's website shows a threaded barrel for a muzzle brake or suppression.
Under barrel specifications, it lists threaded for muzzle brake or suppression as a feature. This is listed for all chamber offerings.
Must be new for 2016...

That'd be hard to resist.
That would be sweet. Hopefully they won't drop the ball on this.
The threaded muzzle is kind of a deal killer for me. I have no need or desire to put a muzzle break or silencers on a lightweight backpacking rifle.

Count me in on this one.

It comes with a thread protector cap. So, you have the option for muzzle break or supressor, but don't have to use one.
Hacksaw will fix it in just a minute or two
Might be worth asking if they would do a few without the threading.

What the hell, I'm in!
SAS, any details? I'd say you got pert near a dozen of em sold already!
I ordered a ton. I don't want to start taking orders until I have some idea about delivery. Give me a week or so and maybe I'll have some firm info. I'm a little worried about their production as well.
I'll run special pricing for a buy on here like I've done with some of the other Kimber's in the past.
Nice! Fingers crossed it's not a 280ai redux. Put my name on list...

Perfect. Thanks!
Someone mentioned an MSRP increase - curious what we will see for out the door prices on the 2016 models (non-group buy)?
Billy,
Non group buy pricing will be $1153.99 on Montana's (from us). We were selling them for $1098.99 prior to the increase.
Oh not bad at all - sounds like a basic yearly cost increase. Thanks Darrik!
Hacksaw will fix it in just a minute or two
BTDT.
Great news, SAS! Did you put a bug in their ears about 1-8 .22/250s?
What will be the mag length on the 6.5...same as the .308?
I'd be interested in one as well.
SAS, of the rifles you ordered, did they all have to be threaded or could you go with a mix of threaded vs non?

This is exactly what I've been waiting for and think it's great that your going to do a group but! Timing couldn't be worse for me though or I'd jump on one
Is this a couple month wait, or a have it by Christmas wait? I'll take one either way.
Hadn't been on here much lately -- lots of travel this time of year for me.
The Montana's in 6.5 Creedmoor are the 2016 model -- all threaded. They made the change, not me!
I've no idea on time frame. As soon as I hear something I'll let you guys know.
I do believe you could sign me up for a 6.5 Montana...depending on final cost OTD of course..
Thanks for putting this together SAS.
Derrick, put me on the list for a 6.5 Creedmoor Montana please.
Seems the dumb a$$s at Kimber have the CM at 12 twist......oh well
Is the 1-12 twist for the 22-250 a typo as well?
Is the 1-12 twist for the 22-250 a typo as well?
Yes, it will be a typo....it will be 1-14.
Any idea when the Creedmoor will be actually available?
I hope in time for me to smack a couple muleys with mine come november!
I get almost giddy opening this thread... 130 scirrocco, reloader 17, brass I can actually find. Hallelujah!
Any idea when the Creedmoor will be actually available?
So there I was, all alone on the creedmoor thread...
I ordered a MRC X2 6.5 Creedmoor on March 11th. They said 4 month delivery. It's not a Kimber, but close.
No huge hurrry, would just like to know when they'll be avaliable so I have the $.

Looks like you are alone.
Ndhunter, I called Whittaker guns last week, because I was curious too and I haven't seen any of these showing up online or in stores yet. Their reply was "Kimber doesn't tell us when we will get them, it could be two weeks or it could be two months". Just keep checking back...
I was thinking we would see a few around by now. Wonder if it would be worthwhile to contact Kimber direct? Or, I could just learn some patience...
If you look at the Hunter in 6.5CM on Europtic, they say it is expected in May.
Since it is the same barreled action, I would think the Montana would be similar.
I was thinking we would see a few around by now. Wonder if it would be worthwhile to contact Kimber direct? Or, I could just learn some patience...
Just like we're telling customers on the phone, we have no idea when they'll arrive. We had no notice of the 308 Hunters arrival -- they just arrived. Kimber could do a better job of communicating with us so we could relay accurate information to customers, but that's not their style. It kinda pisses me off too.
The 6.5 Hunters won't hit the shelf. As soon as they come in, I'll start a thread here. I'll give members here the first shot, same as with the 6.5 Montana's.
I've been looking at the 6.5creed Adirondack but may just wait for a Montana

Same x10
What if someone made a smooth thread cap that was flush with the barrel. Little loktite for good measure?
Here's the beauty we're forced to pay for:
I'll be chopping them off right behind the threads...

Pure genius.

Really glad they included a threaded barrel with a thread protector. Gives us options.

Yes, I know Ted. You and Brad follow every Kimber post on the board repeating over and over again how much you dislike it. I'm certain Kimber management is about to cave - keep it up!

Your wrong.
Brad is a Kimber fan and owns several and has owned several more.
I currently own 2
K22 Classic red pad and an 84M 7-08...Both are pre 2004 two position safety NY made
I have only owned 2 others but with those last 2
I won't say there will never ever be another Kimber purchase but not likely....they product is appealing but the customer service is not.
But adding threads to the muzzel isn't what I want....ymmv
One day I might find a 8400 Montana in 7 WSM

3 port tank brake on this 84L Montana
30-06 180 grn Accubonds over R22 @ 2820 fps
Very little muzzel lift and hardly any felt recoil
But man oh man look at that muzzel blast!!

Is your issue the fact it hurts when you go all "Mapplethorpe" with it?
Nobody is forcing you to pay for anything. Not hard to find a used one, but I think you just wanna complain about something.

https://youtu.be/tmtpOVBzF6k Definitely not interested in a brake, just hoping to find an easy solution to the fugly thread protector. Probably will buy a Montana in Creedmoor, if anyone actually ever sees one.

Hmm . . . just noticed. No threaded barrel on the Hunter.

Yup. Wouldn't mind dropping one in a MT stock.

If kimber would sell the Montana stocks outright...which they won't not matter how many times I ask.
I don't think it will work because of the feed lip/magazine issue. I'll try it today or tomorrow and report back.

Certainly keep us posted!!
I'll have to do it tomorrow. Got swamped this afternoon!
I'll be curious to hear what you find. Thanks.
I looked at one and it sure looked like the feed lips were there for it. I have an extra stock I'd like to drop one if it would work.
I was wrong...they're the same. I placed the mag box and follower into the Hunter action and it fit like a champ. Cycled a full mag box through it to confirm function. Funny thing about this -- Kimber actually told me it wouldn't work because of the arrangements for the detachable box! I'd glanced from the top, but hadn't pulled it out of the stock to verify.
Hunter action at the bottom of the pic..
Is it just the photo angle or is the Hunter action a little beefier than the Montana action? Are the barrel contours identical?
One is closer to me. I had them in my lap with the phone(camera) at a weird angle. They're the same.

Good deal. Thank you!
One more question (apologies if it's a repeat) - Where's the balance point on the Hunter with the heavier stock versus the Montana?

Thanks for the info and pics! With that info and their price, they are now a bit interesting to me. Wonder how hard it would be to modify the stock for a metal trigger guard...?
Any updates on availability?

My 6.5 CM Hunter was delivered to my FFL today and I don't have it in hand yet, but I think it would require some creative mill work to make a Montana trigger guard fit on the Hunter stock and clear the magazine.
I certainly hope someone can make it happen though, as I would love to not have the plastic trigger guard!
Hunter in 6.5 Creedmoor

Any update on the montanas?
Brown truck dropped mine off today. Kevin Weaver rebarreled Kimber Montana 243 to a 6.5 CM. Notable difference is 23" Lilja #1 not a factory dup.
weighs in at 5.4ozs, new CM weighs in at 5.2@22".

I didn't have Lilja create an extract duplicate of the Montane 84M barrel profile. I used there #1 profile barrel. You have to look hard to tell. I'll get a pix up later. Meaning Lilja #1 contour works well without much fess or weight differences.
Kimber's site indicates their CM weighs in at 5# 2oz mine weighs in at 5# 4ozs with a 1" longer barrel.
Hope this helps.
Well that sounds like a sweet rig. I'm just looking to see when the factory rifles may be out?
Looks like they are starting to show up on GB.
LGS has a new Montana and used Ascent, both in 280AI that have my attention. Not sure that I care for the 'carved up' bolt handle on Ascent. And Kimber appears to have opted for a 1:9.5 twist in the 280AI. My preference would be a 1:9T. The Ascent has a VX3i 3.5-10x40, in Talley's. It tips the UPS scale at 6lb 6oz.
My understanding is that the Kimber Hunter will be available in long action calibers later this fall. No idea what calibers will be available. In the back of my mind I'm hoping for the Hunter to be available as a 280AI - not that I need another 280 or 280AI.
Yup 3 of em on GB right now...
Wellllll.....Have a buddy that had the cash burning a hole in his pocket, and I got his in hand a couple days ago.....
Went through the normal culprits and didn't have to do anything except trim the front screw for the the Talley LWs. Pulled it out of the stock and adjusted the trigger down to a CH over 2#s and bolted it back up. Mag box has plenty of play and I decided to see how she did without bedding to get a baseline. Mounted and bore sighted a 10x Super Chicken. Had an extry box of 143 ELD-X Hornady factory fodder....
First 3 shot group went into a 2" group, but after shooting a couple more "groups" the rifle settled down and the 4th, 3 shot group went into a 3/4" group.
Took it out to 550 on steel where it looks like it's running the 143s at 2655ish according to the drops. Put 3 consecutive shots on the plate before it got too dark.
All in all, it's typical Kimber NICE. It'll get bedded next couple days and some handloads worked up. Factory box is 2.830 and I took some throat measurements a bit ago....Amazingly it'll kiss the 139 and 123 Scenars and run them out of the box. The 123 AMaxes also kissed at the max box length.....
143 ELD-x 2.910
140 AMax 2.870
123 AMax 2.830
139/123 Scenar 2.820
140 Hyrbid 2.940
140 VLD 2.895
130 VLD 2.890
.....lyin bastid.....grin......
My hunter in a montana stock (no mods) really likes the factory fodder as well. Both the 143 ELD -x and the 120 Amax are running under an inch...

What I should have wait for......I have an extra Montana stock....I paid for a rebarrel, bedding and bead blast.
Lilja #1 barrel@23".....turned out nice, but more expensive! VX3i 3.5-10@6lbs 2.5oz

Keeping it for now. Figure I'll pick up a hunter or action for 6mm something or other.
Any idea as to when these may be avaliable through Whitaker??
As soon as they get here, I'll get it rolling.
I ordered 30 at SHOT and 10 more since....
