Posted By: JCMCUBIC Re: Which one....... - 02/18/16
You are incorrigible man......

When you bringing a fast stepper or two down to put a few miles on?

300 Savage

7mm-08
Posted By: Kaleb Re: Which one....... - 02/18/16
Lol....we need to do that pretty soon. Was just talking to Fred (Steele saddle Fred) about going for a weekend somewhere.

I have a .300 savage on a 700 action.. Honestly I really like it.. I don't use it much in Wy. but for woods hunting it is great..

Have a 7mm-08 also, but it isn't as much fun as the .300..

I've heard the 223AI was decent.

Not sure myself though. Maybe someone can start a thread about it and get everyone's opinion on it.
Posted By: Kaleb Re: Which one....... - 02/18/16
I like the 223AI but I might need to shoot a deer sometimes. It's not even legal in every state to shoot deers with 22 cals. Thanks though.

That'd be UBER !

Then the 340 Tyrannosaurus is your best bet.

Yea it sounds big enough but I like to be able to buy new shells at every store I see. You know incase I leave town and don't take enough shells

If you always leave your gun loaded it's never a problem.

You can get one more if you always have one in the chamber.
Posted By: Kaleb Re: Which one....... - 02/18/16
That's a great idea. Thanks.

While not as popular for hunting these days "tacti-cool kids stole all the thunder", a 308 Winchester is flat out a great round that kills stuff with no fuss.
Posted By: longbarrel Re: Which one....... - 02/18/16
.284 Win or .338 RCM
Posted By: SLM Re: Which one....... - 02/18/16
No problem.

Just don't do it with a 700, I have one light off about once a week in the closet.
Posted By: Kaleb Re: Which one....... - 02/18/16
700's are junk. I thought it went without saying I'd need crf for hunting.

I should mention I need a real good bullet. In the event I make a poor shot and have to recover the animal the next day I want it to be wounded enough I can still find it....after breakfast.
Posted By: SLM Re: Which one....... - 02/18/16
I can tell you've really researched this.

CRF is a must, you never know when you'll have to shoot a big toothy bear while doing a tactical double back flip with a 1/2 gainer in TN.

The 7mm WSM or the 270 WSM. I have both in 8400 Montana's.

It pays to be prepared...plus I have the Internet.

You're a idiot. Please don't reply to my post. This is a serious conversation.

If your going to use premium bullets I'd read up on them first. I've read on the internet the boxes can be a bitch.

Guess that disqualifies my recommendation for the 358 Win.

It's ok. Go ahead an order a couple of boxes. Experts here on the 'Fire can help walk you through getting the boxes unlocked. Kinda a Rubik's cube thang. whistle

7mm or 300 WSM.
Posted By: Old_Doe_Shooter Re: Which one....... - 02/19/16
You need to define "for all around hunting". All around TN? US? North America? World? The requirement that you need to be able to buy ammo at every store you see limits your choices seriously. .308 Winchester might be the best way to go.
Posted By: rainierrifleco Re: Which one....... - 02/19/16
They all do pretty well...tough to beat a 308 130s for deer and 180 for bigger stuff..7-08 would be choice also...

308 is very versatile. 7mm-08 will do 90% of anything needin' doin' in NA. As always, it's the bullet that matters most.
Posted By: ScottnSA Re: Which one....... - 02/19/16
If its truly all around you have to include Zombies. So it must be on an AR platform
Posted By: DakotaDeer Re: Which one....... - 02/19/16
308 in general.

300WSM if you know you need it and can handle it well.
Posted By: Kaleb Re: Which one....... - 02/19/16
What kinda shells y'all like?
Posted By: SLM Re: Which one....... - 02/19/16
338 Win Mag.

I'll go with the .458X2" American. That's probably even enough for Fox Squirrels(using solids of course).
Posted By: elkhuntinguide Re: Which one....... - 02/19/16
.308.....
