Looking at doing a light weight custom build with 700 clone action. Rifle will have a proof research barrel, can't decide between Mcmillan remington hunter or the HTG. I know scope will have to go in high rings, anyone had both stocks? Preferences?

The HTG has a relatively low comb, not the best match for a high mounted scope. The Remington Hunter will be better in that regard, unless you use an adjustable cheekpiece on the HTG.

Thanks 406, that's what I was thinking too, but tough when you can't handle stocks to get real world idea on how they actually shoulder

I have a Rem hunter on a custom 240wby on a Rem 700 action. I don't like the forend cause its wider than I like and a bit squarish. Just my preference.
I have a Rem 700 custom on a McMillan hunter and like it much better.

Get on the horn with Mcmillan. They'd probably ship you an inventory stock if you paid freight both ways to see if you like the Mcmillan hunter style. Like Dale, I prefer the Mcmillan Hunter model due to the slimmer forearm.
