Did you shoot the .223 Barrel before you took it off?

1-9" is a concession, not potential....

1-8" is where things start gettin good Poobs.

I realize that 1 in 8 is where nothing goes wrong....but Ive got a 1 in 9 in a deuce and it digests everything I put in it, cause I have no intention of shooting heavier that 65 grainers.

My 1 in 8 is certainly the "go to" rifle though...I must admit.

I have one of the current production. It is grouping my standard 55 nosler ballistic tip load right at 1". The 62 ttsx not so much. I am going to have work up a new load with those they are more at 3" groups. Overall quality of the rifle is good.

If you are ok with a 1-9" and want a sleek, light rifle, the Montana has it beat in spades.

Plus, all your friends would finally think you are cool.

I have one and I have it ready to go to the range. I am hoping to take it one day this week or next. The wife and I just had a baby three weeks ago and I have struggled to find the time.

WTF is a.22-204? (ATDM) Almost Triple Deuce Mag? Not to be confused with the MDATM... Is it fancy speak for .223?

I bet it won't spin them at 2200' below sea level.

Ed...I checked them out according to the Berger spin calculator JB turned me on to...they should work fine even in Texas..

The .204 opened to .224. Not too different from the .222 Rem Mag ballistically, but don't tell hard core .22-204 advocates those two are similar...

Better brass available, very easy to convert .204 to .22-204. Fast twist, of course, is the secret. Does great with heavier bullets, like 75 gr. A-Max/SSII's at around 3K. Try that in a .222 RM...

Another option along those lines is the CZ. This one is a .22 Hornet, but they look the same in .223. This is a very nice rifle, well made. The clip extends a bit, this one has a single shot adapter for range use.

I saw that flush mag set up.

I finally settled on this scope mount set up. It's actually lower than the others, using Weaver low rings. With the new M1 bolt handle, it clears the scope eyepiece nicely and I get good cheek weld.

How close to 22-250 is the 22-204 running.

About 200+ fps behind.

The .22-204 will push a 75 gr. bullet at 3K, full out. The 75 VLD at 2,977 av. over 27.4 gr. Varget and the 77 gr Scenar at nearly 3K over 26.5 Vv 140 grouped sub half inch, the Scenar, .31", three shot group. Not that easy to do, consistently, with a very light rifle.

The .22-250 (an 8 twist 22" Shilen/Mohawk) will push an 80 gr. Amax at 3K over 35 gr. H-4350 into .4", three shot group; the 75 Amax at 3,200 fps over 38.1 gr Superperformance and 35 gr Big Game grouped around .6". I did shoot 39 gr. SPF with good results, no pressure signs. The 80 gr. is the tightest shooting of the three in this gun.

Depends on the bullet.

The 75 Amax COAL with .02" jump is 2.54", the 75 SSII, same jump, is 2.44".

COAL is a issue with the .22-204. With the Remington SA, I knocked out the mag spacer, JB Welded a 1/4" piece of aluminum stock at the rear of the box, giving a mag box length of 2.52" (2.82"-.25"). I took a .308 follower, filed it to fit the narrow .223 box and shortened it to accommodate 2.52". Works great, smooth feeding.

Don't know about the Mini Mauser or CZ. The .204 uses lighter, shorter bullets compared to 75 gr. Amax, so no COAL problem in a .204 Mini or CZ. Don't know how hard they'd be to adapt to the longer .22-204 round. I feel sure the Rem would be easier to work with.

Ive always preferred 700s for some unknown reason, but the more I shoot the Sevens, the better Im liking them...

So I guess this is where I ask: You still got the barrel?

I agree, even though Big Stick detests them for some reason. If I could understand Alaskan bush language, maybe I'd know why...

They're very compact and efficient actions and seem to shoot about as well as a 700 when set up correctly.

IMO, the biggest drawback with the Model Seven is the factory stocks. good stocks make them shine.

Yeah...Ive got a Seven Predator and that stock had to go....got a B&C Alaskan for it, but it was too 'chubby' so I miked a Ti and tried to dupe it...feels much better now!

I bought a Seven Predator Mossy Oak Camo in 204 Ruger when they first came out. I couldn't get it to shoot. It went down the road. I blamed the stock, but wasn't going to mess with all that camo.

Can't remember what I did with it, who ended up with it.
