Is there a difference in quality? Have a chance at a LH Model 24 original UlA in 35 Whelen and just looking for some feedback.

Thanks Roy
they are the same Melvin had to change the original name after he got the company back from colt when they defaulted
I can't add to what Gene did above but if you're seriously considering that one, make sure you're at peace with a 5.5# Whelen. smile

Haha that's what I was about to text him. Too much for me
Lol! I hear ya fellas! Im not too recoil shy but I may brake it if gets too much. Can't pass up the deal and have always wanted a ULA. Rather it be a 270 but I do love the old whelen and I got a bunch of 200 and 225 accubonds to play with...

Come on up Kaleb and lets shoot a pile of groundhogs like u were supposed to last yr.

RTJS,

If you are not too recoil sensetive then I would think the 35 whelen won't be that bad for you. Yeah it won't be something you take to the range to plink with, but I am guessing since you are getting a NULA the rifle will be meant to be carried more than shot.

If thats the case it should be managable in a 35 whelen. I have done trips to the range working up loads in my 4 pound 14 oz 338-06 with 210s @ 2800+, 225s @2700+, and 250s @ 2500 shooting 50 rounds over the course of the trip to the range, with breaks inbetween of course to let the pencil barrel cool.

My shoulder certainly feels it the next day but its not unmanageable IMO. I wouldn't port or brake it right out of the gate just cause. Now that I have my loads figured out I likely will just be shooting 10-20 rounds with it when I take it to the range just to verify zero and drop out to 500 yards. Don't shy away from the lightweight whelen.
Roy, the 225's won't be all that bad - I shoot them in my 700 KS (35 Whelen).
The violence escalates rather quickly with the 250's. grin
Thanks guys. I'll be picking it up next Fri. I'll try to post pics. Anyone got some pet loads for the whelen and 200 or 225 accubonds? Got about every powder needed so lets hear them. Also thinking of putting on a Zeiss 3.5-10x44.

I think that bed is way too small.

Had an "original" ULA in 280AI...the Colt thing was a mess--and having my rifle stuck there during that crap appeared to me to be Colt's doing, totally.

ULAs are one of those things you wished you had held onto a little longer...:)
I have had ULA, NULA and CLR/NULA hybrid.

Traded the NULA, in 7-08, for a AHR in 9.3x62. I still have the other two.

Not a whole lot of difference IMO.

My 260 is an ULA receiver that was built after the change to NULA. Sort of a bastard. It is a shooting SOB, though. Love that rifle and would jump at a whelen.
I inherited a ULA in 300 WM from my late hunting partner. Recoil is about equal to my normal elk rifle, a Kimber Montana 300 WSM. Easy to carry up the mountains, shoots little groups with 165 Barnes, and can reach out there if needed.
If the price is right, buy it.
