That's really cool. I didn't even realize Iceland had Polars. I've dreamed of hunting them since I was a boy.

What rifle and caliber did the farmer shoot the bear with?

This is the 3rd Polar bear that this farmer gets on his land since 2008 and he's using 30-06.

The Environment Agency of Iceland gets the carcass and then worked by a taxidermist and then finally donated to the Natural Museum.

Looks like a fairly young bear.

Was it healthy besides the broken tooth?

I take it they aren't endangered out there.
Amazing animals.
Never cared for hunting certain predators, unless it's to control their numbers. Then sign me up.
Putting flame suit on now.

My great uncle shot one in Norway I think in the late 60s off the ice flows. The rug is HUGE. He used a 338 Model 70 with 250gr Silvertips.

Some dumbass posted this polar bear pic on LinkedIn; you can only imagine the chitstorm of comments; used to be a valuable business tool but, it is becoming more like Facebook everyday. Damn big predator; don't believe I could face one in bow range. Unless; there was a guy with an 30-06 standing next to me.

I'll bet Mr. Hippo comes into contact with people with much greater regularity.

And they don't tend to eat them.

If a polar bear sees something moving, it's pretty much on the menu. Never been to the far north but even little bears can be scary.

Ya have to admire those old Eskimo's that killed them with a spear. miles

100K worth of free bear hunting for minding ones own livestock is a sweet deal all unto itself. wink

Polar Bear Trap:

Go out onto the ice flow.

Cut a 6' diameter hole in the ice.

Get a bag of frozen peas.

Place the peas around the hole, 1" apart.

Then wait.

When the bear stops to take a pea, kick him in the ice hole. grin

Yeah, he probably is still working on a WW box of Silvertips from the 50's.
