I am considering a new .300 Win Tikka T3 or T3x and after looking at the factory specs the Tikka T3x lite stainless weighs 7lbs...wow! This is not a light rifle, My old T3 Superlite weighs 6.3lbs.....I dont see the extra weight here, i know they filled the buttstock with foam and added a metalic bolt shroud and steel recoil lug but that dont add up to 3/4 lb ...id like to hear from someone who has actually handled and preferably weighed a T3x .300 Win to know for sure if they actually do weigh 7lbs..........Thanks Hb
Pretty easy to convert a T3 to somewhat of a T3x without the stock adjustment capabilities, of course
I've hunted a T3 for 11 years and have not had a single problem with the rifle. I've likely covered over 500 miles afoot with my T3 and have come to appreciate the fact that it is reasonably light.

If the new T3X really is that much heavier I think it may very well be a deal breaker for me.

In fact, had they left it alone but shaved another 6 ounces of the rifle I think it would have sold like wildfire!

Trystan
I agree Trystan, if the T3x lite really is that much heavier than a T3 its a deal breaker for me too.........Hb
Doesn't the Superlite have a fluted barrel? If so and the T3X doesn't have the flutes there is where some of the weight is.
I went to my local Cabelas today and we weighed a new T3x Superlite in .300 Win ($929.00) and it weighed 6.0lbs....so the Tikka specs are wrong, I could tell the T3x didnt weigh anywhere near 7lbs as soon as the sales guy handed it to me.....I ended up buying a T3x lite stainless .300 Win for $649.00...they were on sale, reg price was $749.00......I will get it to the range tomorrow........Hb

How much did the Lite Stainless weigh?

P
We didnt weigh the Lite but i really couldnt tell any difference between the weight of the T3x Superlite with the fluted barrel and the T3x Lite, probly no more than a couple ounces....the flutes are very shallow on the Superlite and certainly not worth an extra $280.00 (to me anyway).......your also paying more for the camo stock on the Superlite........Hb
Just for info....Tikka no longer supplies rings with their T3x......I always use Talley lightweights so this was not an issue for me.........Hb
Just weighed mine.

Tikka T3 stainless Lite in .223 with a Leupold VX-II 3-9x40 scope in Tikka rings - 7 lbs 4 oz. uloaded.

Tikka T3x Hunter with wooden stock in .260, identical Leupold VX-II 3-9x40 scope in Talley lightweight mounts - 7 lbs 2.5 oz. unloaded.

The Hunter has a slightly bigger hole in the barrel but it has a wooden stock which one would think makes up for that. With my two examples the wooden T3X is just a tad lighter than the synthetic stocked older T3.

Not completely apples to apples but I think it's safe to say there is not a huge difference in weight between the two.
I agree Jim, they are both lightweight rifles.........Hb
Anybody that's shot both, is the recoil pad/management any better with the t3x? My t3 had a piece of rubber on the back, but I wouldn't call it recoil absorbing. Just ordered a 300 win t3x as well and wondering if a limbsaver is a must or not?
Thanks

Yeah, that's not "light" by todays standards. My pre 64 model 70 338 win mag weighs that...
