I have the opportunity to buy an unfired stainless/synthetic Model 7 in 7mm-08. I can get it for $550, he does not have the box though. I saw a few pics and it looks good but I will inspect before buying. Is this a decent price? I looked on buds and it looks like a new one is about $625. So am I better off doing this or going after a Savage model 11 trophy hunter xp in .308 that a local gunshop has on sale for $399. Thanks for any help or opinions between these two guns. I don't have a specific need for either but just looking to add something to the safe.
I'd much rather have a Remington Seven than a Savage 110 series rifle.
Thank you sir. I don't have a lot of knowledge about bolt action centerfire rifles.
For me - no question - the model 7.

But I do not like Savage and I do like Remington 700's and 7's (plus others).
I'd bet the Savage would shoot circles around the M7.
Yup

Me too.

$550 is a good price on a 7-08 M7.

Casey
You can buy the Seven at that price, and you won't lose money on later if you decide to sell it.

Savages only go down in price, usually quickly.
Thanks for the replies. Looks like I will be getting myself an early Christmas present. I already have a Burris Fullfield E1 2-7 scope that I will throw on there.

Every Model Seven I've ever had would make a Savage crawl back in it's hole.
I would choose the model 7 based on personal preference.
Love both my model 7's .. I have 7-08 and 308 both SS. The 7-08 one is probably my most used deer rifle.

The model 7 as mentioned would be a easy sale to get your $ back on if you didnt like it.

I've had 10 savages and 2 model 7's. Nine of the 10 savages put both the M7's to shame.
I decided to pass on the model seven. I talked to the guy and couldn't get straight answers from him on some questions I had. I didn't get a good feeling about the gun or him in particular. He couldn't tell me when he bought it, I asked him if he bought it from a local gun shop and he wouldn't give me a straight answer on that either. Plus he wanted me to come to his house and pick it up which I always prefer meeting in a public place. So I think I will go with the savage, not only is it a pretty good price at $399 but there is also a $75 rebate on top of that. I do appreciate all the input, thank you guys.

Smart man... You get a bad feeling walk..
I have a 7 in 7mm-08. Shoots very well. Great rifle
Check and make sure. I think the rebate on the trophy hunter was until Nov 13.

+1 on Model 7 resale value. I had one in .308 and lost only a little money after deciding to let it go after 3 years of owning it. I have never owned a Savage so I can't make a comment on it's resale value.

I just found that out when filling out the rebate slip the gun shop gave me. Oh well, I was going to buy it before knowing about the rebate. I really wanted to model 7 but I just could not get over feeling like the seller was up to no good. Not being able to answer simple questions like where it was purchased or how long ago, even approximately turned me off.
Owned several M7s over the years. They never stayed very long. Terrible balance in my hands. $550 stainless is a good price, however, I would pass on the M7.
