Was looking over at the Remington site, checking out their long-range model, why no .308 Win?

I guess if you are into long range you are most likely loading your own and the 06 should give you the same with a little more case capacity, but I thought the .308Win was considered a standard long range caliber.

Barkoff - "why no .308Win?". Marketing perhaps...I bought the .30/06 flavor and like the longer neck, slightly higher MV etc. Since I reload for both it's no big deal. Homesteader

Rem does offer nearly the same thing in the .308 SPS Varmint model. It does not have the B&C stock of the long range model, however.

All of the cartridges are long action. I guess short actions won't reach as far grin

barm - "I guess short actions won't reach as far". Yes, it seems being 'dimensionally challenged' brings on yet another set of issues to be overcome! LOL Homesteader

bought a Rem. 700 Long Range in the 30-06 last May at Budsguns for $633.00 shipped free to my FFL.I must say I really like the rifle. The Bell &Carlson stock fits me much better than the HS Precision stock my Sendero rifle came with. The rifle is basically the same as my older 1997 model Sendero except for the stock and it doesn't have a jeweled bolt.It is very accurate with my handloads.Out of that 26" barrel I can get 3000fps with 165-168gr Nosler Ballistic Tips.My CZ-550 Varmint with a 26" barrel in the 308 gets 2700fps with those same bullets.I used this rifle this week to kill three whitetail deer. All three were DRT.Shop around and get the Rem.700 Long Range 30-06.You will be glad you did.

It is simple; just buy the bell and Carlson stock and put it on a an sps varmint; if you want a 308. I prefer the 30-06. my long range shoots great. lapua brass and bergers.

Does SW still sell their stainless steel version?

It looks like B&C makes that stock for the short action 700 too, so a 308 would seem feasible. Maybe Joe Public does not see the 308 as a LR cartridge?

This rifle comes with a laminated wood stock. Out of the box with 168gr Serria Match Kings she shoots 1 MOA. Mount a Atlas BT17 picatinny rail to the front, a good scope and she will shoot long range well.
