Anyone familiar with the mossberg MVP 308? My brother is interested in getting one for hog and varmints around Texas. Not a rifle I have any familiarity with so I told him I'd ask the experts. Thanks

Wife of one of my friends wacks a couple deer a year with a Mossberg ATR(same action I think) in 7mm-08 has had no issues with it, seems to be plenty accurate.

I own one. Overall I like it quite well.
I didn't like the blocky shape of the stock so I slimmed it down and I removed the barrel and threaded it for an AR-10 flash hider so I can carry it muzzle down on the floor of my truck.
It's accurate but not "super accurate", at least with the ammo I have used so far. I shoots right at MOA with 165 and 180 grain loads, but with careful hand-loading I may get it tighter. My best so far is 3/4", 5 shots with 150 grain bullets.
I have a Weaver K-4 on it and it does all I would ask it to do.

I don't like the fact that the bolt is NOT locked by the safety, and 2 times not I have found the bolt open and a cartridge ejected on my back trail. I would ask Mossberg to change that.

I and my wife have killed elk, deer and antelope with it, and I have loaned it to 3 friends for their hunting too. All 3 have killed game with it.

Overall I like it. I usually build all my own rifles and I love Mausers, but I have to admit I do like the MVP. It feeds super smoothly from Mag-Pul P-Mags. The 10 round steel mag it came with is also super smooth, but my friend Jimmy has one just like mine and his factory mag is a problem. He got some p-mags and he loves them.

Based on their track record of constantly introducing new, cheap, rifles, I just can't get enthused about anything they make, pump shotguns excepted.

If economy is a big factor, there are better ways to save money.

I bought a Savage hog hunter to use with my suppressor. I have been amazed how accurate it is. Sometimes you can find them for 350.00. Bought a couple predator-hunters in 6,5 Creedmoor. They put bullets damn near through the same hole. Check out Chuck Hawks review of them. I would buy a Creedmoor. Pigs aren't hard to kill. We kill cshit out of them with AR loaded with 62 Barnes TTSX. Have fun!!

The nice thing about MVP's is their ability to take common mags, the .223 takes AR-15 mags...

Apparently they patented their mag catch, which is why ruger and everyone else has had to go a different route. I have half the mind to scrap my rifle and try to bed the bottom metal (plastic)into a kimber hunter in place of the kimbers detachable mag system... just need kimber to make a hunter in .223
